About
Tucked into the hills of Bluefield, WV, The Aquarium is a locally owned, in-person aquarium store run by owner Robbie (Robert), whose hands-on knowledge of fishkeeping has built a loyal following — some shoppers driving close to two hours just to walk through the door. " Freshwater is the heart of the shop. Hobbyists have walked out with Mustard Gas bettas, albino cory cats, plecos, goldfish, and angelfish, and Robbie is known for talking through which species can share a community tank before you buy.
If you're hunting for angelfish or bettas for sale in Bluefield, WV, this is the kind of counter where you can ask what pairs well in a 75-gallon and get a straight, experienced answer. " Beyond fish, the store stocks reptiles like bearded dragons and ball pythons, small animals including guinea pigs and ferrets, and live feeder insects — super worms, horn worms, and Dubai roaches — for keepers who need food on hand close by. Dry goods, tanks, fish food, and the basic equipment to get a setup running round out the shelves, and new inventory tends to arrive almost weekly, so the variety is genuinely impressive for a quiet rural area.
What sets it apart from big-box competitors is the personal touch. Robbie greets people warmly, fields phone questions about tank troubles, and will special-order items he doesn't keep in stock. Reviewers repeatedly describe him as honest, fair on price, and someone who wants animals to land in good homes — one even brought a sick ferret back to health before it found a family.
The shop is small, no-frills, and cash only, but for aquarium hobbyists across southern West Virginia, The Aquarium is a real local resource backed by an owner who takes the time to do things right.

“I just took home a beautiful male ferret from there, he was sick when he first arrived and the lovely man that works there got him back in good health and now he's got a loving home”
— Tiffany Presley5.02 weeks ago“My go to! The owner is very helpful and very knowledgeable. Store is always in great condition and you can tell he cares about the animals in the store! Will continue to go here for my saltwater needs!!!”
— Joseph Lambert5.03 weeks ago“During my recent visit, I was appalled by the neglect I observed. While the fish appeared to be in passable condition, the treatment of the other animals was deeply disturbing. A ferret was confined to a poorly maintained cage littered with feces, clearly not cleaned on a regular basis. The animal appeared extremely ill, with visible ear discharge and back legs that seemed to barely function. The overall state of the ferret’s health suggested that it might not survive much longer. Shockingly, the store was asking $350 for this near-death animal. The rats for sale were housed in a 10-gallon tank, an environment completely unsuitable for their health and well-being. Even the fish tanks were substandard, with seashells used as bedding—a practice that can lead to fish illnesses. Sand or similar substrates would have been a far healthier choice. As someone who cares deeply about animal welfare, I left feeling horrified and disheartened. This level of neglect is unacceptable, and immediate attention is needed to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals in this facility.”

— Regina Davis3.0a month ago“So I visited for the first time this past weekend. I want to say for the amount of fish tanks they were in pretty good shape overall. Till people care for that many tanks they have no idea the work and how tanks cycle. I used to take care of 60 tanks at my parents store years ago. So to the people that complained about tanks being dirty. They all looked good and healthy and you will always have a few that look rough no matter what. The reptiles and small animals looked to be in good health and well taken care of. Good job Sir. Keep up the good work.”
