About

Pisces Aquaria in Eugene, Oregon has quietly earned a devoted following among freshwater aquarium enthusiasts, and it's easy to see why. Walk into this compact, family-owned shop on any given afternoon and you'll find rows of crystal-clear tanks, a seriously impressive selection of aquatic plants, and hardscape materials that would make any aquascaper's heart race. Owner Andrew and staff members like Ashley and Garrett have built something special here — a store where the livestock is visibly healthy, the prices are fair, and every customer gets treated like they matter.

The freshwater focus is deliberate and deep. You'll find nano fish, corydoras, rainbowfish, dwarf cichlids, rasboras, bettas (housed in proper setups, not sad little cups), shrimp, and snails. Their plant selection is one of the largest in the Eugene area, complemented by substrates you won't find at chain stores and premium aquascaping equipment from brands like UNS and ADA.

Several reviewers have driven hours — from Roseburg and beyond — just to shop here, and many leave with far more than they planned on buying. What sets Pisces Aquaria apart is the genuine care that permeates every interaction. Multiple customers describe bringing in water samples for testing over weeks or months while cycling their first tank, with staff patiently guiding them through the process.

When one first-time shrimp keeper lost their initial colony, Andrew replaced them at no charge and helped troubleshoot the issue. That kind of generosity builds the sort of loyalty you can't manufacture. The display tanks alone are worth a visit — reviewers consistently call them inspirational, and they showcase what's possible when aquascaping knowledge meets quality materials.

One 35-year veteran of the hobby called it the most professional yet laid-back aquatic establishment they've visited anywhere in the country. For freshwater fishkeeping and aquascaping in Oregon's Willamette Valley, Pisces Aquaria is the real deal.

  • “Fabulous friendly fish friends! Very helpful and knowledgeable folks in a very clean and well kept shop. Thanks Ashley & Andrew for all your help getting my tanks started and stocked.”

  • “This place has a lot of selection and my plants I have purchased from there have been great. Customer service is also great too. Unfortunately my best friend and I purchased 2 bettas from here in late September and they both died within a month. We have a lot of experience in bettas and have never had something like this happen before. It is a big bummer considering we thought we had found a great store but considering we spent $35 on each fish on top of a bunch of plants (another at least $20) for them to not even live more than a month is really discouraging. We did multiple water tests and everything and it is nothing wrong with our tanks. My shrimp in my tank is still fine as well so it doesn't seem to be my tank that is the problem. My best friends tank is also still thriving and her other plants and tetras are fine as well.”

  • “I decided to start my first aquarium ever this year and went to Pisces Aquaria for all my purchases. The staff was EXTREMELY helpful and tested my tank water for me over the course of months before I purchased my shrimp. They are all extremely sweet, knowledgeable, and very friendly during conversation. After I got my first group of shrimp, they all died within a week with no identifiable issue. I went back to the store just to try and brainstorm what happened to them, and Andrew, whom I believe to be the owner, generously gave me a handful shrimp at no extra cost. I was extremely touched by Pisces Aquaria's generosity and customer service and cannot recommend them enough. The new shrimp are doing amazing now and I couldn't be happier. Thanks so much <3”
