About
Pet Time on West 11th in Eugene has been a fixture in the local pet community for over two decades, and its aquatics section punches well above what you'd expect from a general pet store. The freshwater shrimp selection alone is worth the trip — reviewers report upwards of 32 color variations on display at any given time, a range that rivals dedicated aquarium shops. Bristlenose plecos, bettas housed individually in filtered, planted tanks rather than sad little cups, and a solid lineup of freshwater fish round out the aquatics department.
Staff members clearly know their way around a freshwater setup; multiple customers mention getting detailed, enthusiastic guidance on shrimp keeping, tank parameters, and fish compatibility. Beyond the tanks, Pet Time is a sprawling creature emporium. Tarantulas, scorpions, isopods, snakes, geckos, and lizards fill the reptile and invertebrate sections, and a younger staff member has earned a reputation as the go-to tarantula expert.
There's a full catio where rescue cats lounge in view of the shop floor, available for adoption — a genuinely charming touch. Feeder insects, frozen rats, and red runner roaches keep the herp and arachnid keepers stocked. The store also hosts bird trim clinics run by long-time groomers Roni and Will, a service loyal parrot owners have relied on for more than 20 years.
Pricing draws consistent praise, especially on frozen foods and live feeders. The inventory skews practical rather than boutique — don't expect a wall of high-end reef equipment — but for everyday freshwater supplies, fish food, and enclosure essentials, it covers the bases at fair prices. A sister location, Hometown Pets in Springfield, offers a second option if the West 11th drive doesn't work.
Pet Time isn't trying to be a specialty aquarium gallery. What it does well is combine genuine animal care, passionate staff, and a diverse freshwater and invertebrate selection under one roof in Eugene.

Customer reviews
“I love the variety of critters here. Tons of supplies and staff are friendly and helpful”
— Rachel Nehf5.0a day ago“Started going there maybe 6 months ago regularly. They’re great for pinkies and crickets and all that, but as for our ferrets. They are out of litter/food more often than they have it. Today I went in and for the 3rd time in a row (we keep having to go to petco when they’re out) they were out again… unfortunately If you have small animals I would recommend you save time and head elsewhere.”

— Connie Kline5.0a week ago“A very nice local pet store. The staff have always been incredibly friendly and helpful with any of my needs and questions. They seem very knowledgeable about their products and willing to offer suggestions and discuss options. Their animal availability varies a little seasonally, like having fewer tarantula offerings during winter because of shipping dangers etc. of course they want to sell pets, but I’ve never felt pressured to buy an animal from any of their staff.”
— Isabella5.0a week ago“Good”
— John5.02 weeks ago“I have never smelled anything in or right outside of the store, so I don't know what the other commenter is smelling. The staff has been nothing but gracious & helpful when I've gone in there every 1-2 months for years. They have been great hosts for the bird trim clinics I've brought my parrot to for years. Roni & Will have been clipping my parrot's nails (& sometimes his beak) for over 20 years. My husband & I even got a beautiful CAG baby from them as well. The parrot that they've been clipping for me is now 27 years old, & I started going to them when he was 4 or 5. Pet Time still hosts their trim clinics at both the Eugene & Springfield stores to this day. Very fair pricing on any of their items. They have a good selection for all regular animals.”
— Kim D5.0a month ago“They are very knowledgeable there. They also own hometown pets in Springfield if w11th is too far. They care about the pets in their care. And they are super friendly”
— Katrina Currence5.0a month ago“Awesome Staff at both stores, great prices and always willing to help!”
— Ken Gajda5.0a month ago“The smell of cats and litter boxes is very overwhelming-would not come back just because of this. You can smell the pet store from outside of the shop… Majority of the tanks look like they need more cleaning… Friendly staff. Variety of pet supply options. Easy to find and plenty of parking.”
— K P2.0a month ago“Always very kind and helpful with any pet needs, great place to go for reptiles and fish”
