About
Pet Time on West 11th has been part of Eugene's pet scene for over two decades, and while it's a full-spectrum animal shop, its freshwater aquatics department is the reason fishkeepers keep coming back. The freshwater shrimp wall is the standout — regulars count around 32 color variations on display at once, a range that rivals dedicated shops and makes this one of the better spots for shrimp for sale in Eugene, OR. Bristlenose plecos (one shopper bought three tiny ones that "grew like weeds"), bettas housed individually in filtered, planted tanks instead of cups, and a rotating lineup of community freshwater fish round out the livestock.
A recent visitor raved that the tanks were spotless, the prices the best in town, and that none of the fish they'd brought home ever turned up sick. The staff clearly know their aquatics. Customers mention learning something new every visit and getting patient, no-pressure guidance on shrimp keeping, water parameters, and stocking — exactly what you want from a neighborhood fish store.
Pet Time also carries aquarium plants and stays well stocked on frozen and live foods, with frozen products reviewers say run noticeably cheaper than the big-box chains. Beyond the tanks, the place is a sprawling creature emporium: tarantulas, scorpions, isopods, snakes, geckos and lizards fill the reptile and invertebrate rooms, where one younger staffer is known as the go-to tarantula and isopod expert, and another, Jordana, personally called a customer back to make a refund right after a tricky spider sale. A full catio lets rescue cats lounge in view of the floor, available for adoption, and longtime groomers Roni and Will still run the bird-trim clinics parrot owners have leaned on for 20-plus years.
Regulars note the store looking cleaner and sharper lately, too.

“Actually, spent most of my time in the Cricket store trouble shooting my device. Now that store has some amazingly intelligent representatives. In fact, one certain employee at this location actually had been my female service technician at jiffy lube last year. Talk about multi talented.”
— Jack Rossi5.0a week ago“Unfortunately a GBB tarantula I purchased from Pet Time died a week after I purchased it due to molting. Jordana and I spoke before the purchase about the molt and how it might not survive because of that. I purchased it anyways. I called Pet Time after the GBB died, and asked if I could have a refund since it had only been a week. I was told no by someone who didn’t know the situation, but then I got a call the next day from the lady who sold me the spider and she said they already had refunded me my money and apologized. She really made me feel seen and my feelings heard even though we both knew about the spider molt situation. I asked if she would like me to bring it in to show as proof that it had died, and she said no unless I wanted to. The situation started rocky, but thank you Jordana for calling back and fixing things. I’ll be back around 🙌🏻”

— Elian Millan5.02 months ago“Great staff. Great selection. Good pricing. Has cats, fish, snakes, geckos, spiders and isopods. Good place to get reptile food. At petco a heating pad was $30 found the same one here for $16. Almost 1/2 priced. Shop here! Save yourself $$”
— Alouna B5.02 months ago“Went in with intentions on purchasing a snake for our 14 year old mind you this isn't our first time owning a snake nonetheless any exotic animal and the gentleman spent more time talking us out of purchasing a snake then trying to help us.”
— Tanner Garland2.03 months ago“2/21/2026 The store is really starting to look nice. It's cleaner. They've got great prices on pros and food for fish. The carrying plants for the aquariums and also larger and stuff The employees that I have dealt with seem to be very educated about aquatics. Their prices are very reasonable. I was shocked how much cheaper they're frozen products were. I purchase these three tiny little bristle nose. They're growing like weeds It's amazing how fast. And being involved in rescue most of my adult life. I really enjoy going in and being able to pet their cats and see them content and sleeping in a beautiful cattery with able to watch all that's going on outside. If you need a cat don't always look for kittens. They have some beautiful ones in there. I'm not sure what rescue group they work with but I was pretty impressed with the price”
