About
Tucked into Port Jervis, New York, Overboard Aquatics is a compact but deeply curated shop run by owners Tyler and Bill — two guys whose passion for aquatic life is practically contagious. Customers routinely drive 40 minutes or more to get here, and the reason is simple: the level of care and expertise packed into this small storefront is remarkable. The shop leans heavily toward marine life, with a strong selection of coral frags and saltwater fish that draws reef hobbyists from across Orange County and even neighboring Pennsylvania.
One customer noted purchasing bio balls that had been seasoning in the store's own sump for two years — the kind of detail that signals people who actually run thriving systems, not just sell products. Freshwater enthusiasts will find healthy live plants and fish as well, though the saltwater side clearly gets the spotlight. What sets Overboard Aquatics apart is the genuine investment Tyler and Bill make in each customer's success.
They'll quarantine fish for you, walk a complete beginner through their first tank setup, and even field questions over Facebook during a power outage. ' They won't sell you a fish just to make a sale — they make sure it's the right fit for your setup. Beyond aquatics, the store carries exotic animals including tarantulas, scorpions, turtles, and captive-bred millipedes, with transparent sourcing practices.
One customer was shown the parent animals and given free specialized substrate to ensure proper care. When someone called about their tortoise, staff took time to listen and offer real guidance. Prices are consistently praised as fair and competitive.
The atmosphere is clean, welcoming, and unpretentious. If you're in the tri-state area and care about the health of your aquatic animals, Overboard Aquatics delivers the kind of honest, knowledgeable service that big-box pet stores simply cannot match.

Customer reviews
“Tyler and Bill are the best! Very knowledgeable and open to teaching. We couldn't reccomend them more!”
— Melissa Roberts5.0a week ago“I have bought multiple animals from them they have high standards for themselves and are the few people who will ethically own exotics and won't lie to their customers. I asked about a baby millipedes captive bred status as I was skeptical(because often people lie) but I was shown the parents and their set up. When I did not have Flake soil (an expensive soil) I was given a large deli cup FULL of it for free with my milli, they were also willing to hold the milli for me when I called in about him. I will support these guys anytime I need an animal.”
