About
Country Critters Ltd is a sprawling, family-run pet and aquarium store in Patchogue, NY that has anchored the Long Island fishkeeping scene for decades. " While the shop carries reptiles, birds, and small animals, its aquatics department is the reason hobbyists keep driving in from across the region, including one keeper who made the trip all the way from Ohio just to see the tanks. The freshwater selection runs deep, regularly stocking species most local shops skip.
You'll find discus for sale in Patchogue, NY alongside rare, cool-looking livebearers, with swordtails, jumbo mollies, and oddball varieties that reward a slow walk down the aisles. Pond keepers come for koi and pond fish, and visitors genuinely love feeding the koi while they browse. The saltwater side holds its own too; reef and coral enthusiasts praise the staff's honest, no-upsell guidance, with more than one reviewer recalling being talked out of unnecessary internet-fueled equipment in favor of a healthier, better-balanced tank.
Live plants and a vast supply selection round out the aquarium store offerings, and shoppers consistently call the fish room one of the biggest, cleanest, and healthiest on the island. Part of the draw is the atmosphere. Ducks waddle through the aisles, a wallaby roams freely, and a resident bird whistles at customers, chaotic in the best way, and the kind of place kids beg to revisit.
Staff like Jen, Brandon, Rich, and Claudia get called out by name for patient, knowledgeable help, whether walking a newcomer through a first tank setup or matching the right food to an established system. Small-pet boarding is a rare local perk for rabbit and small-mammal owners. For freshwater variety, marine and reef know-how, and koi available in Patchogue, NY, Country Critters remains one of the island's most distinctive aquarium destinations.

— Beth Fuiaxis5.0Edited 2 months ago“i saw 3 three foot long snakes in five gallon tanks with flies in them. they have so much room to too put them in decent sized enclosures. i would have bought them to save them but they are overpriced too. it’s like they want these boas to stay in a 5 gallon beta fish house forever”
— francis1.02 months ago“My bird loves coming with me to the store to get toys. I’ve gotten a hedgehog, a bird and fish all from this store over the years and they have never let me down. The animals are happy and taken care of.”
