About
Eddie's Aquarium Centre has spent decades earning its place as the Capital Region's destination aquarium store, the kind of shop where customers happily drive an hour or more to browse the tanks in person. Set in Cohoes, NY, the showroom runs deep on both freshwater and saltwater livestock, with regulars praising a selection that stays dynamic from visit to visit. Recent shoppers have come home with white cloud mountain minnows, peppered cory catfish, Congo tetras, and cherry shrimp, while the cichlid tanks turn up standouts like electric blue acaras and other acara varieties hand-picked with help from the staff.
If you're hunting koi or rare species for sale in Cohoes, NY, this is one of the few independent stores around that reliably has them. The live plant section is a draw in its own right: rare aquatic plants, CO2 setups, and even carnivorous varieties like nepenthes that surprise visitors with overlapping hobbies. A sand table lets aquascapers test hardscape layouts before they buy, and the dry goods run from Seapora tanks and Fluval canister filters to Oase skimmers, substrate, lighting, foods, and medications.
When the weather warms, a pond section opens out back, stocked with pond plants and supplies for backyard water features, and the staff are genuinely knowledgeable about pond and water-garden builds. What customers mention most is the people. Owner Ed Dunkin and team members like Evan are repeatedly singled out for patient, no-pressure guidance, free water testing, and advice tailored to your tank rather than a generic script.
Longtime hobbyists with decades of experience say they still learn something every trip, and newcomers leave inspired to start their first setup. As with any livestock purchase, seasoned regulars suggest quarantining new fish at home before adding them to an established tank. Walk in for a bag of food, and you'll likely leave two hours later with a new plan for your next build.

“Always looking for excuses to visit. Beautiful fish and plants - and they really take the time to help address all my questions and make decisions 🩷”
— Kristin Bergene5.0Edited 4 days ago“Not ADA accessible. While they do have ramps up to the doorway, the height of the threshold caused me to almost tip my scooter over. This was witnessed (not sure if they were employees) but no assistance offered. Would love to return but physically can not.”
— Richard Loebel2.0a week ago“I live an hour away in southern Vermont, but it was an easy beautiful drive to Eddies and they had exactly what I wanted. I was impressed by their selection, quality, and maintenance of their tanks. I purchased 10 white cloud mountain minnows and 6 peppered cory's. It has only been one day, but they appear very healthy and active in my tank. I have become frustrated with the big box fish store near me. Though their prices are less, the health of their fish is not good and I was sick of taking gambles of infecting my tank. It was worth paying a few more dollars and driving an hour to get these beautiful healthy fish. Also, I love how Eddie's list their stock on their website, so I didn't waste a trip. I specifically wanted white clouds, and they carried three different kinds! Thanks again for the great experience!”
