About
Blue Reef Aquatics in North Las Vegas has built a loyal following among desert fishkeepers with its extensive inventory of both freshwater and saltwater species. Walk through the doors and you'll find rows of clean, well-maintained tanks housing everything from loaches and goldfish to rare and unusual aquatic creatures that are hard to find elsewhere in the Las Vegas valley. Live plants round out the livestock selection, and the store stocks equipment like water pumps alongside its fish.
" Prices are frequently cited as reasonable, which matters in a hobby that can get expensive fast. Staff members like Donna have earned praise for guiding customers through equipment decisions, and the team generally earns high marks for their willingness to answer questions and share their passion for the hobby. That said, the store's track record isn't spotless.
At least one newer hobbyist reported being sold incompatible fish for a tropical setup — goldfish mixed with tropical species — and felt the staff didn't do enough to prevent the mistake or make it right afterward. It's a reminder that even at well-regarded shops, doing your own research before buying pays off, especially when stocking a new tank. Still, the overwhelming majority of Blue Reef's 373 reviews tell a different story: one of a shop that takes pride in healthy livestock, fair pricing, and genuine enthusiasm for fishkeeping.
The store serves as a solid resource for North Las Vegas aquarists looking to stock freshwater community tanks, explore saltwater setups, or simply browse an impressive collection of aquatic life. For anyone building out an aquarium in the north end of the valley, Blue Reef Aquatics is a destination worth the trip.

— Daniel R1.04 months ago“I recently started the fishkeeping hobby and was beyond excited to set up my new 120-gallon tropical aquarium. On my first visit to the store, I spoke with a clerk named Andre Williams and explained that I was new to the hobby and needed help selecting fish that would be appropriate for my tropical tank. Andre suggested a few fish, and I trusted his advice. At checkout, the store owner made a comment about goldfish being for cold water—right in front of us. At that point, I had Andre return some fish that the owner claimed wouldn’t be a good match. I appreciated the input and assumed we corrected the issue. Once I got home, I waited for my aquarium maintenance professional, Bobby, to help introduce the new fish. As soon as he saw them, he was shocked and told me these fish were completely incompatible with a tropical setup. I was confused and upset—this was supposed to be a fun new hobby, and now I had fish that could harm my tank. I called the store immediately. A woman answered and put me on hold to speak to the owner. He claimed he “warned” me about goldfish being cold-water fish—but at no point did he clearly explain that they were not compatible with the other tropical species I had. He took my money quickly and made no real effort to ensure I was making the right choice for my tank. I would have spent thousands over time building out this hobby. Instead, they lost a loyal customer over $100 and a lack of proper guidance. They also refused to offer a refund or even store credit for the mistake. If you’re new to the fish hobby, I strongly suggest you go somewhere that takes the time to ask what you already have in your tank and helps you make responsible choices—for the health of your fish and your wallet. Very disappointed.”
