Oceans and Seas in Roseville, Michigan has built a loyal following over the years — the kind of store where customers who visited as kids keep coming back as adults. The shop carries a substantial inventory of both freshwater and saltwater livestock, with community saltwater display tanks that reviewers say they could watch for hours. Their coral selection draws repeat visits from reef hobbyists, and the store has earned a reputation for being particularly welcoming to new reefers who need guidance getting started.
On the freshwater side, the selection spans everything from angelfish and gouramis to harder-to-find species like Hillstream loaches and fancy goldfish varieties including Orandas and Ryukins. One customer was thrilled to finally find healthy fancies after searching multiple shops in the area. Live plants are well-stocked, and the store carries a broad range of tank supplies, decorations, and specialty fish foods — including brands that other local shops simply don't carry.
Staff members like Katie and Natalie come up frequently in reviews for their product knowledge and patience, especially with newcomers to the hobby. The owner has earned goodwill for practices like accepting surrendered fish and offering store credit, as one customer experienced when they needed to rehome an Oscar that had outgrown its tank. There's also a resident Aussie (the four-legged kind) greeting visitors at the door, which adds to the store's personality.
A few reviewers have noted occasional issues with fish health — ich and fin rot have been reported — so it's worth inspecting livestock carefully before purchasing. Some visitors have also experienced inconsistent customer service during busy times. But the majority of the store's 700+ reviews paint a picture of a well-stocked, personality-driven shop that serves Roseville's aquarium community with genuine enthusiasm.
The combination of competitive pricing, deep inventory across both fresh and saltwater, and a staff that will talk you through your first reef build makes it a destination worth the drive.

Staff are extremely helpful. Salt water fish and coral have all survived wonderfully in my tank. They take care of the product they sell. Good selections of both. Depends on what you’re looking for. Rabbitfish is doing beautifully!!!!

Beautiful store! I got some live plants the other day, as well as some snails. They have fantastic service and let me take as long as I like to walk around and say hello to all the fish, and then pick out what I need. Very kind people run this store, and I am a big fan of the aussie who greets me at the door! She's such a sweetheart, I will have to come back and visit her some time soon 🥺🥺🥺 I forget her name I am so sorry but I love her. Also the other baby pup (I think his name starts with an S and he's around 7 months old). I will come back soon, as I want to look for silly tank decorations and maybe look into live feeding options and also just drop in and walk around because I truly just love the place. I could stare at the coral tanks for days. Included photos are of my 30 gallon tank (I purchased everything except for the castle from here) that I have set up recently! Soon enough I will also be able to transfer my tetras into this tank. Very excited. Thank you Oceans and Seas for all that you do! 💚

i had really high hopes the first time i came here, i came on a lunch break and wanted to check out the store. i was amazed by their selection of livestock and decor. i knew i needed to come back when i could buy some fish. when i did, i got 2 angel fish and 2 gouramis. 1 of the angel fish passed within 48 hrs, and the gouramis were covered severely with ich right in the bag (my fault for not catching it? surprised they were sold judging other tanks had NFS on some.) the gouramis lasted ~4 days in quarantine. definitely inspect throughly the fish you're picking out before purchasing, other wise their decor, food and other accessories selections are great.
