Tucked into the small town of Linden, Michigan, Sunset Corals has built a devoted following around owner Greg's deep passion for saltwater reefkeeping. The store's bread and butter is coral — reviewers consistently praise the variety and quality of frags and colonies on display — but Greg has been steadily expanding into freshwater fish and live plants, giving the shop a broader appeal than its name might suggest. Saltwater dominates the floor.
Tanks filled with corals, ocellaris clownfish, and reef-ready livestock draw hobbyists from across the region, and Greg's willingness to spend serious time with customers sets the tone. Multiple reviewers describe consultations lasting well over an hour, and he offers free water testing to help people dial in their parameters. One customer spent four hours in the store learning everything needed to transition from freshwater to a reef setup and left fully equipped to start.
On the freshwater side, you'll find guppies, live plants like red root floaters and duckweed, and the occasional oddball — reviewers have spotted adorable puffer fish and orange dart frogs sharing shelf space with amano and cherry shrimp. The planted tank selection, while smaller than the saltwater offerings, continues to grow. The shop itself is compact but densely stocked, and the atmosphere leans personal.
Greg and his wife run the operation with a family-business warmth that most customers find welcoming, though a few reviews note that Greg's direct style — particularly when it comes to responsible fishkeeping — can feel blunt. Tank cleanliness has also drawn occasional criticism, and one reviewer flagged an aiptasia issue on a coral purchase, so it's worth inspecting frags carefully. Still, the overwhelming consensus is clear: Sunset Corals is a passion project that delivers real expertise and healthy livestock.
For reef hobbyists in the Linden area, it's a genuine local resource — the kind of shop where you walk in for a frag and walk out three hours later with a new friend and a plan for your next build.

First time there and they had tours and tanks down for rebuild and stuff like that so the selection was a little low at the time but a nice store nice people

A very rude owner was there. I told him we had a 10-gallon tank. My girlfriend was asking about angelfish. Yes, I know angelfish cannot go into a 10-gallon tank. I tried telling her that and told her to ask the owner. He told her off and said, "Yeah, I wouldn’t even sell them to you." I was just asking for guidance, not to buy them. We won’t be back.

The atmosphere is amazing, his love for his animals shows and is much appreciated. You never know how you could be feeling walking into this beautiful store, but the moment you’re in there it’s pure happiness. Your problems just melt away as you stare into the tanks and watch the dancing live plants. The fish, frogs, etc always look SO healthy and loved. One of my favorite places in Michigan hands down.

First time in the store today and was very impressed. Greg the owner, took 15 minutes to speak with me. He is very knowledgeable about salt/freshwater setups. This is a great small business to support!
