About
A & M Aquatics in Lansing, Michigan isn't your typical walk-in fish store — it's a wholesale operation serving brick-and-mortar aquatic retailers across the Midwest and beyond. There's no flashy signage out front and no open-door policy for casual shoppers. This is a membership-based wholesaler, and that distinction matters.
If you own a local fish store and you're sourcing marine livestock, A & M Aquatics is a name worth knowing. The company has built a strong reputation for consistently high-quality marine fish and live corals, with multiple reviewers calling them the best wholesale source in the state — and some going further, claiming they offer the highest quality marine fish in the entire US market. Their aquaculture corals, in particular, draw praise as some of the finest in the industry.
Retailers report that fish sizing is accurate, dead-on-arrival rates are minimal, and the livestock arrives healthy and ready for resale. Grant, a key member of the sales team, earns repeated mentions for being knowledgeable, communicative, and easy to work with. The operation is described as clean and professional, with follow-up calls after shipments to check on the condition of arrived goods — a level of attentiveness that many wholesalers skip.
Orders are shipped with clear email communication on the day of shipment, though reviewers note it's important to stay on top of your own order details. A & M Aquatics specifically supports storefront retailers, requiring customers to have a public-facing business before opening an account. This policy has drawn both praise from established shop owners — one 32-year veteran retailer called it a welcome safeguard against basement resellers — and frustration from newer entrepreneurs working out of their homes.
Some retailers have found the sales cadence a bit aggressive, with weekly Friday calls that didn't always align with the rhythm of running a local fish store. Coral pricing has also been a point of debate. But for retailers seeking dependable marine livestock from a Lansing-based wholesaler with a genuine commitment to the health of their animals, A & M Aquatics delivers.

“I guess this is NOT A PLACE TO GO LOOK AT FISH. I went, it has NO SIGNAGE and when I called it says you have to become a member. I just wanted to go get a couple of Koi. I wish I knew it was a member only spot before I drove all the way out.”

— Jordan Soulia5.02 years ago“Hands down, the highest quality marine fish in the US market. Corals are consistently high quality. Great sales team, knowledgeable, and responsive to feedback. If you're in the Midwest and you're NOT doing business with them, you're making a mistake.”

— Melissa Fox4.06 years ago“Best vendor in the state”
— Brent Gardner5.06 years ago“They refuse to open an account for new companies starting out of their home, they think you have to have a storefront to own a business.”
— Jeff Whalen1.07 years ago“Pushy sales team. They called every week on Friday which as a LFS is not a good day to call for obvious reasons. I asked not to be called on Friday and was dropped as a client. The calls and emails didn't stop so I called and asked why and was told that A&M only wanted to have relationships with clients that wanted to do business with them. Took 3 calls to get off the email list. Fish were usually ok, but corals were always overpriced for chop and sell type. I went to LA and have never regretted it. Better selection, better prices, no weekly calls on Friday and no weird unnessesary issues with the salesteam.”
