Blue Fish Aquarium in Grandville, Michigan is one of those stores that feels bigger on the inside than it looks from the street — and that extra space is packed with a seriously impressive selection of freshwater and saltwater fish, live aquatic plants, reptiles, and enough dry goods to rival online retailers. Multiple reviewers note that their prices on equipment and accessories compete with Amazon, which is no small feat for a brick-and-mortar shop. The livestock is the real draw.
Tanks upon tanks of healthy tropical fish line the aisles — from Tiger Oscars to snails and everything in between. The saltwater section stocks marine fish and supplies that keep dedicated reef hobbyists coming back, while the freshwater side covers a broad range of species and live plants. Reptile keepers will find bearded dragons, feeder insects, and other herp supplies as well.
One customer noted they purchased their beardie three years ago and still makes the trip for supplies — the kind of loyalty that says something about consistency. The staff at Blue Fish consistently earns the highest praise in reviews. They're described as patient, passionate, and genuinely invested in helping customers succeed, whether someone is troubleshooting a problem tank or setting up their first saltwater system.
One reviewer credited staff guidance with helping their new Tiger Oscar thrive. Another highlighted working with Patti and the team through a full aquarium purchase. The willingness to spend real time with customers — answering a million questions without rushing — sets Blue Fish apart from big-box pet retailers.
The store also offers trade-in credit for fish and plants, reportedly the highest in the area, which keeps the local aquarium community engaged and the livestock selection rotating. The displays themselves are worth a visit; several customers mention losing track of time just walking through and admiring the aquariums. For aquarists in the greater Grand Rapids area, Blue Fish Aquarium has earned its reputation as the go-to shop for healthy fish, quality plants, and genuine expertise.

Lots of fish and reptiles, feeder insects, as well as cat and dog food and toys. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I got my beardie here 3 years ago and still make the trip out from time to time to get supplies for him... And look at all the pretty fish.

I absolutely loved this place. Iv gotten a lot of fish from Bluefish and there all perfectly healthy. And the staff is amazing, even tho I had a million different questions they were patient and told me the answers. And even tho I was a very inexperienced fish keeper they made sure to stear me in the right direction and tell me exactly how to take care of the fish. Just recently I got this buetiful Tiger oscar and with all the extremely helpful tips he is THRIVING.

Simply the best place around. Always have the healthiest fish and plants. HUGE selection of freshwater and saltwater fish, reptiles, and equipment/accessories. A lot of their prices on dry goods rival Amazon. Highest trade-in credit in town when you bring them fish and plants. Additionally, they give simply wonderful service each and every time I stop in!
