About
Atlantis Fish Shoppe is a small, owner-run aquarium store in Clawson, MI, tucked near the Detroit metro line and known above all for its saltwater and reef side. The heart of the shop is its coral selection: frequently rotating frags, full-size colonies, anemones, and invertebrates that have drawn reef keepers from across the region for years. Hobbyists building their first saltwater tank often point to the one-on-one guidance here as the reason they stuck with the hobby, and longtime regulars credit the owner with patiently answering questions, diagnosing a sick fish from a phone photo, and pricing livestock below the big-box chains.
The freshwater side is steadier than flashy. Walk-ins will find cichlids, goldfish, axolotls, corydoras catfish, neon tetras, and honey gouramis, alongside a decent rack of live plants and a working selection of water chemicals and medications. If you are searching for coral frags or saltwater fish for sale in Clawson, MI, this is one of the few independent spots in the area that keeps reef livestock in stock week to week, and the inventory is worth checking in person since it turns over often.
It is a compact storefront, and that shows: display tanks can look sparse, and the dry-goods and hardscape selection is limited. Husbandry is the recurring sticking point in reviews. Some customers have reported white-spot ich on new freshwater arrivals and aiptasia on coral, and a few have lost fish soon after bringing them home.
The honest move is to inspect livestock closely and quarantine anything new before it joins your display tank. For local reef hobbyists who want to talk shop with the owner, hand-pick frags, and skip the chain-store wait, Atlantis remains a genuine neighborhood aquarium store. Searching "fish store near me" around Clawson turns up few places carrying this much coral on the wall, and the personal, walk-in experience is still the real draw.

“I was really excited to find a shop so close to Sterling Heights! Unfortunately, they are much better with saltwater than they are freshwater. Let the display tank speak for themselves, they’re bare and empty. Small and cramps, I understand they are temporary solutions but even for a fish shop in 2026. It’s pretty bare bones, they don’t have much of anything equipment wise. They have a decent selection of chemicals, but even then still not much. You can tell most of it is backstock from brands. people aren’t willing to purchase as much. I’ve been coming here every week for a couple months, chronically checking in on the fish. For about a month or two they had a pretty bad white spot outbreak. When I mentioned this, the owner seemed to have no clue of it. Being a tad ignorant, I had also picked up some pygmy Corey Dora‘s. Because of my inexperience, I wasn’t aware of the terrible condition they were in. One died within a couple days on perfect water parameters and the rest have taken about a month to regrow their fins. Honestly, I just highly recommend another spot, go somewhere where they know more, have a better selection of fish, and a little bit more. They have decent plants”

— Carl Coker5.0Edited a month ago“Both visits were not good. The guy doesn't listen to your needs before cutting you off with suggestive items that do not fit your needs.”
— Candace F Little1.02 months ago“I walked in and said I need 6 neon tetras, a honey gourami, and 3 panda corydoras. They had them all. I'll go back in a week or two and add one more centerpiece fish. I've changed my review since most of the fish i bought perished. 5 of the neon tetras and my honey gourami. I can assure you it's not anything I did because the last thing I would want to do is kill $90 worth of fish. My water temperature was good, and the tank had been running using the AC 20 filter for 4 weeks and i used Seacham Prime to condition the water. I didn't bother going back to return them all. I didn't want to contaminate my tank.”
