Tucked into a modest building in Brownstown Township, Aquatic Treasures/Bruce's Pond Shop packs a remarkable amount of aquatic life into every corner. This downriver Michigan staple has earned fierce loyalty from both freshwater and saltwater hobbyists who keep coming back for livestock they simply can't find at chain pet stores or other local shops. The freshwater selection runs deep — colorful guppies, kuhli loaches by the dozens, cichlids you won't see elsewhere, and bettas that draw in newcomers setting up their first tank.
The saltwater side is equally impressive, with marine fish and invertebrates that have launched many a reef keeper's journey. In summer, the outdoor koi shop opens up behind the main building, stocked with pond supplies, koi food, deicers, and garden statues that make the visit feel like a destination. Live plants are a particular strength.
Reviewers consistently call out the quality and variety of aquatic plants alongside driftwood and rocks for aquascaping. Staff member Sam has become something of a local legend, patiently walking customers through plant selection, shrimp care, and tank rebuilds with genuine enthusiasm. Lauren, Molly, and other team members round out a crew that earns praise for spending real time with customers — not rushing transactions.
What sets Bruce's apart from the competition is their commitment to quarantine. Every fish goes through a proper holding period before it's available for sale, and customers report being able to add new purchases directly to established tanks with confidence. The tanks themselves are clean and well-maintained, a detail that speaks to the daily care the staff puts in.
Pricing on plants runs higher than bargain outlets, but repeat buyers consider it fair given the health and quality of the stock. For anyone in the Brownstown Township or greater downriver area looking for a fish store that treats livestock — and customers — with genuine care, this is where the serious hobbyists shop.

Dont let the small building fool you this place has the best selection out of any of the fish stores in the area. Please support local businesses like this one it really is a gem.

This place has a huge variety of fish. I came here to buy guppies, and they had lots of very colorful guppies. I also came here for kuhli loaches and they had at least 30 in the tank. They also give a lot of helpful tips. I would totally recommend this place to any beginner aquarists.

Big variety, clean tanks and healthy fish-- unlike other places with over crowded, dirty tanks. Will always go back here for fish and tank needs. They were all very knowledgeable, they truly care for the fish and don't want to just make a quick profit.

All the fish here were really beautiful and well taken care of, and the staff were great. I came in with 4 other people, one of them being a 4 year old, and both of the employees(I wish I got their names!!) were really kind and patient with him. They were also super knowledgeable and passionate! This was my first time in Bruce's, but I really couldn't recommend it enough.

I've bought all of my saltwater fish and invertebrates from these guys since I started my saltwater journey and I couldnt be happier, Sam has been very helpful and informative. They also have a selection of freshwater cichlids and fish you won't find anywhere else. They are the best in the downriver area.

Sam and Molly were super helpful! Sam answered my endless questions about plants, fish, and shrimp. I would recommend this shop over any other I've been to in the area for multiple reasons. They quarantine their new fish and really care for their tanks. They have the best selection of live plants, drift wood, and rocks. They are also very reasonably priced. Just overall great experience and will be back soon!
