About
Lucky's Aquarium is a Worcester, MA fish and aquarium store with a fierce regional following — the kind of shop hobbyists drive across Massachusetts to reach and call one of the best in New England. Behind an easy-to-miss entrance (look for the bay door on the backside of the old red brick building) sits a clean, meticulously maintained store packed with healthy tropical fish, freshwater shrimp, live plants, driftwood, and stones. What sets Lucky's apart is the livestock.
If you've been searching for rare and hard-to-find fish for sale near me, this is the place: L46 Zebra Plecos, elephant nose fish, bichirs, stingrays, and discus share tank space with community staples like neon tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, honey gouramis, and cloud minnows. The cichlid selection runs deep, and betta fish are available in Worcester for keepers stocking sorority and display tanks. Shrimp and invertebrate keepers come from well beyond the city for the selection here, including yellow Neocaridina, making this a go-to spot for anyone Googling shrimp or plecos near me.
Live aquarium plants are a particular strength, with affordable pricing that keeps planted-tank hobbyists coming back, alongside quality driftwood and natural aquascaping stones for building a natural layout. The staff — led by owner Dylan and the widely praised Tom — are genuinely passionate and knowledgeable, steering you toward the right solution rather than the most expensive one, and they've stayed past closing to make sure a customer got the fish they called about. New livestock typically arrives Sunday into Monday, so Mondays are the prime shopping day, and an actively updated Facebook page keeps customers current on inventory and frequent sales.
For anyone keeping freshwater or saltwater tanks in central Massachusetts and looking for an aquarium store in Worcester, MA, Lucky's has earned its reputation one healthy fish at a time.

“Very helpful, super nice staff and good selection”
— A Hinz5.0a month ago“I visited Lucky's Aquarium to check out their stock and ask a few questions about a new tank I am currently fishless cycling. Chantal was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly helpful! They had the exact established filter media I was looking for to help jump-start my beneficial bacteria and get my parameters in line safely before adding any fish. I will definitely be returning to purchase my fish here once my tank is fully ready. Highly recommend!”
— Sebastian Zborowski5.0a month ago“I have shopped at this location for 4 years. I purchased somewhere between $1500 - 2500 in Koi, goldfish, sailfins, pumps, aerators, plants and food for my outdoor koi pond. Recently I purchased at a large black and orange butterfly kio for $150 + tax. It died within 5 days of being in my pond. I never saw it eat and attemp to eat. It just stayed at the bottom. I contacted the Luckys several times about it before finally being connected to the owner. The owner basically said there is no exchange or refund policy on livestock and he assumes no responsibility. I find this a disheartening waste of money and lack of appreciation to a loyal customer. I will not be returning to this store in the future.”

— Lisa Desrosiers5.03 months ago“I spoke with the owner Dylan for some advice about my fish tank. He was very kind and knowledgeable. He gave me some advice on how to solve an issue I'm having with my water. And he welcomed me back if I didn't have any luck, and gave me his business card to call.”
— Kerry Torrey5.04 months ago“Amazing customer service. Great fish and aquatic plant selection. My boyfriend and I just started this hobby and adventure. We have done a TON of research and we were super excited to visit some fish stores. We started at tropical isle and had a terrible experience. Staff was rude and everything was over priced. Then we headed to luckys and our moods were instantly turned around. We were greeted by Dylan who was IMMEDIATELY welcoming and smiling. He was more than happy to give helpful tips. This will be our go to place from now on. This is worth the trip is you live far. Fortunately for us, it’s local. 100000% recommend”
— Ariana Millero5.04 months ago“Our local fish store. Knowledgeable and passionate individuals work here. Good variety. Good places.”
— Dan Wilson5.04 months ago“Great store for aquarium fish that you don't normally see at your local Petco Pet Smart.”
— Kenyon Bower5.04 months ago“Went to a big box pet store and on a whim. We (wife) and I wanted to purchase a Betta fish and some supplies. No employees around to assist or ask questions too. So I did a quick Google search which led us to Lucky's aquarium. What a great tip! Super helpful employees who got us up and running. A great selection of fish and plants and very knowledgeable. This place is a local gem.”
