Tucked behind the owner's home in Swansea, Massachusetts, The Bloomin' Barn is a family-run operation that has carved out a niche as the area's go-to destination for koi ponds and water gardens. You pull into a residential driveway and find yourself surrounded by colorful koi, pond plants, marginals, and shelves of pumps, liners, and water additives — everything needed to build and maintain an outdoor pond from scratch. The shop's core strength is its koi selection.
Reviewers consistently praise the variety of koi and goldfish available, and many are repeat customers who return season after season to stock their ponds. Beyond fish, The Bloomin' Barn carries pond hardware — waterfall pumps, replacement parts, liners — alongside a nursery stocked with hanging plants, perennials, annuals, herbs, and vegetable starts. It's equal parts pond supply store and garden center, a combination that's hard to find elsewhere in the Swansea area.
Knowledge is a real asset here. A younger staff member — frequently singled out by name alongside George and Evan — has earned a reputation for being deeply versed in pond chemistry, water additives, and equipment troubleshooting. Multiple reviewers credit the team with walking them through everything from first-time 1,200-gallon pond setup to recovering from water-change mishaps.
One customer even had their pond cleaned on-site and called the results fantastic, pointing to hands-on pond services beyond just retail. Honesty demands noting that the owner's bedside manner is a recurring theme in reviews — some find him abrasive, others appreciate that he knows his stuff even if delivery is blunt. The younger staff members tend to smooth things over and are frequently praised for patience and helpfulness.
Prices reflect a small independent business rather than big-box retail, but the trade-off is specialized expertise and healthy stock that customers trust. For pond keepers across southeastern Massachusetts, The Bloomin' Barn remains the only dedicated pond supply shop in the area — and for many, the only one they need.

The Bloomin’ Barn was recommended by an acquaintance who knew that we had a backyard pond. We visited it, bought a new pump for our waterfall, started to install the pump, and it broke during the install. Because it was our fault that the casing cracked, I called the manufacturer to order a new part. The manufacturer told me that it was no problem and no cost to replace that part since it was brand new. They told me to call the place of purchase and the store would replace the broken part at no charge; that was the manufacturer’s guarantee. I called the Bloomin’ Barn and talked with the young man from whom we had purchased the pump; he took all the necessary information, and ordered the part. When I called the Bloomin’ Barn a couple of weeks later, I was told that the part was in, but when we went to pick it up, it was the wrong piece. The young man with whom we had done business was very helpful and apologetic, but here is where the story takes a dive. The apparent owner, an older man took over and face us nothing but negative attitude and comments. He told me the pump looked old and “chewed up” to him (it had never been used) and when the young man returned with the needed part from a pump off the shelf, put it on our pump, and handed it to me, the older man gave him a dirty look. I asked the young man if I owed him anything and the older man piped in with, “charge her what this other piece cost!” I paid the $8.50 and left, never to return again. And never to recommend the Bloomin’ Barn to anyone!
