Tucked into Feeding Hills, Massachusetts, Aqua Dreams has built a devoted following among reef keepers and freshwater hobbyists across New England — and apparently even Alaska. Owner Chris runs a tight operation, stocking an impressive rotating selection of corals (frags and colonies alike), saltwater fish, anemones, urchins, hermit crabs, and shrimp, with new inventory arriving weekly. That constant turnover means there's always something worth the drive, and multiple reviewers mention traveling an hour or more just to browse.
The saltwater side is clearly the star. Reviewers consistently praise the health and vibrancy of the coral selection, and reef tank owners describe Aqua Dreams as their go-to for livestock and equipment, including wavemakers and lighting. But freshwater isn't an afterthought — the shop carries bettas, plecos, nerite snails, mystery snails, live plants, and a range of fish food and supplies.
One customer reported keeping freshwater fish purchased here alive and thriving for eight years. What sets Aqua Dreams apart is Chris's depth of knowledge and his willingness to share it. He'll test your water, walk you through conditioning for specific species, troubleshoot balance issues, and talk you out of buying livestock your setup can't support.
Several reviewers note he won't sell animals unless they're healthy and ready to go. He's also been known to source special orders for customers willing to set up proper housing. The shop ships nationally — one reviewer raved about a Storm Clownfish that arrived across the country in pristine condition, and another praised corals shipped to Alaska.
A rewards program and regular sales (like their Memorial Day event) keep loyal customers coming back. The store is compact but meticulously maintained, with clean tanks and well-cared-for animals throughout. Pricing is notably competitive compared to other area fish stores, and the genuine enthusiasm Chris and his staff bring to every interaction makes the experience feel more like visiting a fellow hobbyist than shopping at a retail store.

Aqua Dreams is my favorite aquarium store. They have the most vibrant healthy sea life. From the anemones, corals, urchin, to the fish, and shrimp. They are the best around. The gentleman working there every time I’ve gone in is easy to talk to, but not always easy to understand, only because he knows so much more about aquariums than anyone I’ve ever talk to. Everything from starting out, conditioning for certain species, or fixing and maintaining balance in water conditions. Two thumbs up and five stars for Aqua Dreams. I am now on my second set up for a saltwater aquarium. Wouldn’t go anywhere else for products, pets, or advice. I haven’t requested any special orders but over heard the man working there say to a customer he could get them what they are looking for if they had the set up for what they wanted.

When I came in it seemed like I was bothering the person at the counter. I was interrupted before I even finished asking my question.

The young employee was extremely helpful when I went in looking for a Porcelain Anemone crab. I had my daughter with me— she can be a MONSTER—in this particular moment, she was in a fit of rage because I didn’t get her McDonald’s on the 35 minute drive there. This situation was made worse when the employee revealed they were currently out of stock of Porcelain Anemone Crabs. This had been my daughter’s back to school gift promise so you can only imagine how LUCKY I was when the angel employee was able to calm her down by engaging her in a riveting conversation about sturgeons, her favorite fish. God bless this employee for doing the impossible and making the world a better place. God, I don’t know how you do it, you deserve a raise! Also the atmosphere was nice.

Went in to get some hermit crabs for my reef tank that were on sale. They were out of stock, but allowed a substitution of a similar type. Also very attentive and helpful in regards to my questions about other possible tank additions.

I have been to quite a few fish stores in the area broadly, and Aqua Dreams is of the absolute highest caliber. They have an incredible selection of gorgeous corals and a rewards system. Also, make sure you sign up for texts so you can get notified when they have sales, like their Memorial Day sale that I went to today, which lasts until the end of the day Monday. Support local fish stores! There is an excellent selection of wavemakers and lights as well as other equment and high-quality supplies.

Very knowledgeable and informative about keeping fish tanks! I had a freshwater tank for 8 years now, and still have the fish I bought from here! I recently set up my first saltwater tank, and have gained a lot of knowledge from talking to the worker. I appreciate you taking the time to explain things to me, and testing my water earlier today. - Dr. Vassallo
