About Fish Bowl Aquarium and Pet Mart

Fish Bowl Aquarium and Pet Mart in Fall River, Massachusetts is a large-scale pet store carrying a broad inventory that spans freshwater and saltwater fish, reptiles, small animals, birds, puppies, and a full wall of dry goods and supplies. The sheer variety is notable — reviewers describe rows of fish tanks, a dedicated bird room, and sections for rodents, rabbits, snakes, and lizards, making it one of the bigger all-in-one pet retail operations in the Fall River area. The fish department stocks both freshwater and saltwater species, and multiple reviewers note the selection is genuinely wide.

Prices are frequently cited as competitive, and several long-time customers describe years of successful purchases — mice, rats, and rabbits that lived full, healthy lives. However, the store's reputation is sharply divided. A significant number of reviews raise serious concerns about animal husbandry and tank cleanliness.

Multiple visitors report seeing dead fish floating in freshwater tanks, dirty enclosures in the small animal and bird sections, and puppies kept in small glass enclosures with questionable ventilation. Reviewers with veterinary backgrounds have flagged health issues they observed in dogs and other animals on the sales floor. Some customers report purchasing sick animals — including a snake that wouldn't eat frozen food after being raised on live pinkies, and a lizard with health problems within days of purchase — and then encountering resistance when seeking replacements or refunds.

The store apparently does not have a posted return or guarantee policy for live animals, which has frustrated multiple buyers. Staff receive mixed marks. Individual associates are often praised as friendly and helpful, but management and ownership draw frequent criticism for combative responses to complaints both in-store and online.

Customer service gaps — long waits without acknowledgment, limited availability of feeders and supplies — are recurring themes. For Fall River shoppers looking for variety and value on fish and pet supplies, Fish Bowl delivers on selection. But prospective buyers should inspect any live animal carefully before purchase, ask pointed questions about feeding history and health, and clarify the return policy in writing before spending.

Not sure how life could be much worse for these puppies. Absolutely awful to see these beautiful dogs stuck in tanks. Don’t care what the other reviews have to say. If you were selling a well cared for dog it wouldn’t be stuck in a 2x2 glass box. 4k for a French bulldog but what’s wrong with it? And what kind of trauma does it come with it? Be better, it’s 2026. Animal abuse isn’t cool

Came to RI on vacation. Stopped in to see some animals and grab a couple gifts for my 2 ferret babies at home. I have worked with animals for my entire life and have never seen anything like this facility. The cages were gross in the small animal room. One of the ferrets looked to have had something going on with their skin. The cage the ferrets were in was way too small but they were advertising a perfectly well fit cage for them right outside the room for over $300. The dogs were all upset when we were there. The bunnies were in tanks just like the ferrets. There were a ton of dead fish in the tanks just floating around and the tanks were very dirty. I could say more about the cleanliness but just the overall atmosphere was not it. There was no upbeat atmosphere. Now don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to be all up in our faces but just even a simple how can I help you gets the job done. My end result is that I hope all the animals are actually being taken care of well then what we saw here today.

Terribly sad to see dogs in glass boxes. Puppies shouldn’t be kept in a 4x4 box. Do better.

This is actually really sad, none of the dogs had any water, some dogs kept itching ears, it’s really really sad, how do you not keep up with the live pet waters? Do not buy from here.

Large variety of product and animals. However, there were many things I saw there today that concerned me. The bird room was filthy and had dust from their feathers all over the walls and floor, and smelt horrible. If the room was being mopped daily, like it should be, there would not be that amount of dust accumulating there. The second you walk into the store you can smell that there are rodents in there. I have owned mice, gerbils, and hamsters myself and know they do carry an odor but with daily cleaning the smell is unnoticeable. Many of the fish tanks are dirty and the majority of the tanks carrying smaller freshwater fish had at least a few dead fish in each tank. Why are they not being removed?? Not to mention the wall of puppies and the cages of older dogs being kept in the back, where they barked and barked on end. I doubt these animals are being properly trained and exercised, let alone being given enrichment. The puppies were all sleeping during the middle of the day and two of the white dogs, born in January who are over 6 months old living in these boxes had their faces pushed up to the small air vents in the back of the tank. One of them had red discharge from its eyes surrounding its muzzle and both dogs were panting. Another tank of puppies had loose stool in the bedding. Healthy dogs should have healthy poop. The owner replying to all of these reviews with attitude and defense rather than trying to better the business and being unphased by their public perception only shows how little they care for the actual health of the animals here. And before the owner responds with the same attitude to me as he has to many, claiming our opinions are “uneducated” I would like to note my 5 years of veterinary background, schooling, and work experience with various types of animal care. There is no lack of education on my end.

Horrible place, they are inhumane and have horrible customer service. The workers there are great but the owner and manager are greedy, and have no compassion. Whatever you do Do NOT purchase from this store.

Do not buy anything from here, they have no pet policy and if it passes away even in a few days they will not replace or refund. Horrible service. Lost my loyalty. I’ve purchased many pets here. From mice, rats, and a rabbit. The mice and rats lived a long life. My mice got old and grey. The rat too. My rabbits amazing but to get the snake and lose it so soon. I’ve had snakes in the past. They sold me a snake that they have been feeding live pinkies to. They sold me a frozen pinkie wich would normally work for most snakes, fed frozen. They didn’t have any pinkies in stock and no other stores would sell me any. I attempted to feed the snake 4 times in 6 days. He passed on day 6. The owner and manager are heartless and clearly don’t know what it’s like for a 6 year old to lose a pet. I’m also upset. I expected more from the store. They were always great in the past. No policy posted. The pet store associate that sold me the snake was the only one with any compassion. The owner and manager could care less. Go up the street to animal instincts, they feed the right food. For a rewarding experience. I will purchasing from them from now on!
