About

Dinky Reptiles And Aquatics is a reptile-and-aquatics shop in Auburn, Massachusetts where the aquatic side pulls in fishkeepers and amphibian fans from across central Mass. Bearded dragons and ball pythons fill much of the floor, but this is a genuine fish store too — the kind of place where owner Brian knows every tank and walks first-time keepers through the care a new animal needs before it ever goes home. For aquatic hobbyists, the headline is the axolotls.

If you've been searching for axolotls for sale in Auburn, MA, Dinky's is one of the few local spots that keeps them in stock, alongside freshwater species, yellow belly turtles, and the occasional snapping turtle that's come in needing a better home. One longtime customer still talks about the two yellow belly turtles she bought here years ago, both thriving and growing well — the sort of follow-up that says the livestock leaves the shop healthy. What regulars love most is the personal attention.

Brian fields phone calls long after the sale, patiently answering husbandry questions, and you can tell he cares about what's in his tanks and enclosures. He's joined behind the counter by Ashley — "Brian & Ash are the best," as one recent visitor put it — and the two make a point of matching animals to prepared owners rather than rushing a sale. Newer reviews describe a clean, nicely set-up shop with healthy, frequently handled animals and plenty of feeder insects on hand.

Pricing is consistently called reasonable, layaway is available for planned gifts, and the team even offers boarding when you travel. For Auburn-area aquarists hunting axolotls, freshwater aquatic life, or turtles near me from someone who genuinely engages with every customer, Dinky Reptiles And Aquatics is worth the trip — it's smart to call ahead, since hours can vary day to day.

  • “Checked out their table at the Massachusetts Reptile Expo this weekend looking specifically for jumping spiders. The selection practically screamed “we have no idea what we’re doing”. First of all you couldn’t even see the spiders because they had them in containers with black lids that hid every one from view because - and I quote - “we didn’t know they would stay at the top”. The person I talked to had no idea of their origin and whether they were captive bred or wild caught (they were *obviously* wild caught. The one he tried to tell me was a bold jumper was, in fact, a mature female dimorphic jumper - I expect there will be babies soon - and in a container that claimed to be a regal was actually a mature male flea jumper. In fact, none of the regals were actually regals - most of them were bolds, and many of them were noticeably hungry. They clearly know nothing about jumping spiders and wherever it is they get them from is clearly super sketchy. Also, all their fruit fly cultures were moldy. I can’t speak in reference to the other animals they sell, maybe they’re great with what they know better and have experience with but with the jumpers they’re obviously out to make a quick buck on a new trend without actually having done the research.”

  • “I've always loved Dinky's!! My bf and I went..maybe 3 to 4 months ago and bought a jackson chameleon. We went out and bought exactly what the store had him in..we did research before and after we got him. He had heat light, UVB light, a waterfall, moss on the bottom of the cage. Crickets were dusted with calcium. We had him 2 months maybe. Was being handled here n there. Then just one day.. my bf woke up to him being dead! About 1 month before he passed, we went back and bought a baby hognose snake..tricolor. they gave us a Lil plastic container so he'd feel secure. We waited a week to try to feed him cus they has said that he'd just eaten. We try to feed.. nothing..we google..ask pet stores what we should do...i called you a few times and left a voicemail. We tried a bunch of different ways to get him to eat...unfortunately He refused to eat.. I personally have prob 20+ years dealing with and taking care of different reptile species. I honestly don't think we did anything wrong. I don't think we even owned them long enough to do anything wrong. Has anyone else had any experience with these guys? The wife was fantasic..so nice..but her husband was kinda rude and spoke to me as if I were a child, which is NOT kosher!! Any advice?? Thanks! Sarah This is the only way I could respond to your message message. Both animals passed within maybe 6 weeks of getting them from Dinkys I actually drove out to you but the shop was closed. Also, you went away to Florida for a week (I think). We weren't offered any kind of rebate or anything. It's just really sad cuz I really loved both of those reptiles:(”

  • “I'm not one to leave reviews often, but I feel compelled to let the world know how amazing Dinky's was in my process of becoming a first-time reptile owner. Ashley was amazing and communicated with me while we found the perfect bearded dragon for our family! Very knowledgeable and helpful from day one. Answered all my questions no matter the time. Patients of an Angel! I am very thankful and grateful for the time, patience, and education that was shown. I highly highly recommend dinky, reptiles and aquatics. The cherry on the cake is that they also provide boarding, so I will be a forever customer”

  • “Bought a crested at an expo. If i had known it was from dinkys i wouldnt have. They told me 4-6 weeks old. Find out its only maybe 2 weeks. I have to teach him how to eat. Also when my wife and I went to an expo in hanover and bought a jumping spider it was in basically a smoothie cup with a crudely cut screen siliconed to the top. The jumpers abdomen looked so small. These people dont care about their creatures. All for a profit. Stay far away.”
