About
Tucked inside a Bangor mall that has seen better days, Pet Pro is a family-owned shop that has quietly become one of Maine's most trusted aquarium stores — the kind of place fishkeepers drive two and three hours to reach. Owner Alex runs a tight operation alongside longtime staffer Ros, and the two have built a decade-plus reputation on healthy livestock and genuinely useful advice rather than upselling. The fish are the main draw.
Reviewers describe consistently healthy, vibrant freshwater and saltwater stock, and the team clearly knows the animals it sells. If you're searching for Oscars for sale in Bangor, ME, this is the spot — one regular bought a pair here recently, and when one arrived sick the store immediately offered a replacement, no argument. They're just as comfortable steering newcomers toward Cory catfish and explaining why the little catfish prefer to be kept in groups of five or more.
Before anyone walks out with a bag, the staff tends to ask whether your tank is cycled and properly sized for the fish you want — a quiet bit of consultation that has saved more than one beginner's setup. Beyond livestock, Pet Pro carries spider wood, driftwood, a tight but well-chosen range of aquarium equipment, and a solid wall of fish food. Customers get the sense Alex has personally tested everything before it hits the shelf.
The shop also quarantines and treats incoming animals before they reach the sales floor, and stocks Fromm dog and cat food along with small mammals, birds, and reptiles for the broader pet crowd. What keeps Maine hobbyists loyal is the honesty. The owner has been known to recommend buying less when that's truly the better call, and the staff will talk a panicked new owner through an ich outbreak or spiking nitrites right over the phone.
For real expertise and healthy fish available in Bangor, ME, Pet Pro delivers something the big-box stores simply cannot.

Customer reviews
“Friendly staff, I do all of my pet shopping here for my Geckos and Snake!”
— Nick Grimard5.04 weeks ago“The small animal section is inhumane. They have all of those display cages set up but keep their rats in a 10 gallon tank. 3 big ones in 1 10gallon tank. That is crule. I will not come here again.”
— Ashleigh Ahern1.0a month ago“I love Pet Pro. They're the best option in the area. The staff are knowledgeable and always helpful. They usually have whatever I need. I've purchased most of my rats from there and they tend to be healthy and happy. There's just one thing that really bothers me.. why the need to sell live mice and rats as food? It's unethical, not necessary, and can actually be dangerous for the reptiles in some cases. It does not accurately simulate how reptiles would hunt in the wild. I know a lot of people don't care for rats, but hear me out: they are extremely intelligent, and experience joy, fear, and pain.”

— Patrick Hutchings5.03 months ago“Bought two Oscars here one didn’t make it. I’ve had my tank for over four years. My water is absolutely fine. The fish was just sick as they just got them in the night before. I called and they were extremely helpful and willing to replace the Oscar for another. I love that they ask people questions to make sure there tanks are cycled and the right size for the fish they’re interested in instead of just selling the fish to people”
— Annissa J5.04 months ago“Great selection”
— John Moch5.0a day ago“Fantastic local pet supplies. Great fish stocks, extremely healthy fish. Loads of colors, fresh and salt water. Lots of small mammals and assembled cages/cat towers etc usually on discount. Limited food options especially for large dogs, due to storage space they only keep a few brands and smaller bag sizes. Awesome selection and great staff giving good advice.”
— J Johnson5.0a month ago“A hidden gem in a fading mall Pet Pro might be tucked away in a mall that’s seen better days, but don’t let that fool you—the store itself is fantastic. They have a great inventory of pet supplies, and the staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. Whether you’re shopping for food, toys, or gear, you’ll find quality products and people who genuinely care. It’s a shame the mall is fading, but Pet Pro is absolutely worth the visit.”
