Tucked into Topsham, Maine, Corals Unlimited has built a reputation that extends well beyond New England — and for good reason. Owner Jeff runs a tight operation where coral health isn't just a selling point, it's immediately visible. Walk into the store and you'll notice acropora frags with fully extended polyps sitting in the frag tanks, a level of care that many hobbyists struggle to achieve in their own display systems.
That attention to husbandry speaks volumes about the water quality and dedication behind the scenes. Saltwater reef keepers are the primary audience here, and the coral selection is frequently cited as the best in Maine. Duncans, acros, and a rotating variety of frags and colonies fill the tanks, all maintained to a standard that makes buying with confidence easy.
But Corals Unlimited isn't exclusively a saltwater shop — freshwater hobbyists will find a solid range of supplies, including Aquarium Co-Op products, which gives planted tank and community fish enthusiasts a reason to stop in too. Jeff's services go well beyond retail. He's handled full tank installations, including assembling a Red Sea 350 setup at a client's office — everything from building the rockscape to dialing in water parameters before introducing livestock.
He also provides ongoing weekly maintenance, ensuring tanks stay in showcase condition. For those who want a beautiful reef without the learning curve of managing one solo, this is a genuine turnkey option. The store's reach has grown significantly through Jeff's podcast, Mad Hatters Reef, which has cultivated a loyal following of reef hobbyists nationwide.
Corals Unlimited ships livestock across the country, with reviewers from as far as Indiana reporting corals arriving healthy and opening up within days. Live sale events add another dimension, giving remote customers a chance to pick corals in real time. With competitive pricing on equipment, deeply healthy livestock, and a willingness to handle everything from a nano setup to a full office installation, Corals Unlimited earns its loyal following one frag at a time.

I haven't personally been into this store, I listen to this podcast every single day of my life religiously and some episodes time and time and again. From a listener and viewer standpoint the owner is knowledgeable friendly and overall and outstanding business owner and from what I have gathered he truly cares about these animals and goes above and beyond to make sure that they continue to have the best health possible. As a new reefer I have learned the hard way not all shops are going to be helpful or kind but I have learned so much from being an avid lister and I’ve been able to be successful in this hobby from this man right here. Big kudos and much respect. 🫡 and to the local customers there in Maine consider yourself lucky to have such a great resource.

Love the store. Great selection of products all at competitive pricing. Literally have always had anything I needed when I've stopped in. Carrying Aquarium Co-Op supplies is a great option for me as a freshwater guy as well. Overall just a great local store.

Corals Unlimited and Jeff have been amazing to work with. Got me everything I needed for a small set up at by house then came and installed a Red Sea 350 for me at my office and did everything from putting together stand to building rock scape and getting parameters perfect for intro of corals and fish. Coming and doing weekly maintenance and ensuring the tank is in perfect condition for everyone to see and enjoy!

I am new in the Reef Tank Hobby. Learned so much from watching Mad Hatters Reef. Do not hesitate buying from Jeff, either on line or at his store. I live in Indiana and my corals arrived in great shape. The Duncan has only been in my aquarium for four days and is wide open and happy. Thanks Jeff for the Great Start to my Mixed Reef Dream.

Their acros have extended polyps in the frag tanks. Plenty of people have to work hard for that on their main display tanks, but at this store that's just how it is!
