About
7-star reputation built on healthy livestock, spotless tanks, and a staff that would rather teach you than sell to you. Reviewers consistently describe walking in as beginners and leaving with a real plan: people like Sarah Beth, Hunter, Bryce, and Taylor get named again and again for patiently explaining cycling, water parameters, plants, and which fish to add and when. Freshwater is the heart of the shop.
The live plant selection is a genuine draw for aquascapers, kept vibrant and largely free of nuisance algae, while the tropical stock runs to bettas, danios, rasboras, corydoras, snails, and shrimp — one regular even had staff sex her shrimp minutes before closing and later spotted a berried mama. Hunting for healthy freshwater fish and live plants for sale in Roswell, GA? This is the spot locals steer newcomers toward instead of the big-box stores.
The shop also carries frozen foods, tanks, lighting, and filtration. As an aquarium store, Southern Aquatics keeps a saltwater corner too: ocellaris clownfish, live sand and live rock, cool corals, and UV anemones, alongside crowd-pleasing axolotls and the occasional starfish that makes it a fun stop with kids. There's even a friendly shop dog who gets her own mentions.
The store is currently working through a renovation, so the layout and stock can be in flux on any given visit, but regulars say the service never slips — staff have stayed past closing to answer questions and bagged fish carefully for customers driving over an hour to get home. For Roswell-area hobbyists who want livestock that actually thrives and people who genuinely care, Southern Aquatics delivers.

— Amanda Finch5.0Edited a week ago“I cannot say enough good things about Southern Aquatics and the incredible customer service we have received. My aquarium journey started with a phone call to Sarah Beth. As a complete beginner looking to set up a tank for a betta, snails, and shrimp, I had a lot of questions. Sarah Beth was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and generous with her time. She walked me through the basics, answered every question thoroughly, and helped me feel much more confident about getting started. She even let me know that she might not be in the store later that afternoon, but assured me that one of her coworkers would be available to help. When we arrived at the store, we were greeted by Hunter, and the experience only got better. Hunter took the time to give us a complete rundown of everything we needed—from equipment and supplies to tank setup, cycling, plants, and livestock. He carefully explained the steps needed for long-term success and provided a realistic timeline for when to add each type of fish, shrimp, and snail. As beginners, having someone willing to educate us rather than simply sell products made all the difference. Since then, we've returned several times, and every visit has been just as positive. The staff is consistently friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help. Hunter in particular has been incredibly patient with our endless questions and has provided outstanding customer service every step of the way. It's clear that the team at Southern Aquatics genuinely cares about both their customers and the health of the animals they sell. If you're new to the aquarium hobby or an experienced aquarist looking for a trustworthy local fish store, I highly recommend Southern Aquatics. Thank you, Sarah Beth, Hunter, and the entire team for making this such a great experience!”

We went into the store to get the first two fishes for the girls, Sara helped us with everything from the type of fish, tank, light, to water filter system and feed… we couldn’t have done it without her and now the girls are in love with their fishes. Thank you!! Update: 3 years later, a much more lively tank”
