About
Fish Gallery sits among the most trusted aquarium stores in Athens, GA, a freshwater-and-saltwater shop that locals return to week after week for healthy stock and unhurried advice. The freshwater side runs deep: guppies, bettas, cichlids, oto catfish, and a rotating wall of shrimp share space with the kind of rare and unusual fish you won't stumble across at a chain. Plant-hunters single it out too, turning up for hard-to-source live plants and walking out with more than they planned.
If you're hunting cichlids for sale in Athens, GA, this is the shop regulars name first — one recent customer notes she stops in often just to add to her cichlid tank. Saltwater keepers have just as much reason to visit. The Red Sea display tank is a genuine showpiece, and the coral and anemone selection draws steady praise — a recent visitor called the corals "stunning" and the prices great.
A sandbox station lets you mock up a hardscape layout before you commit, a thoughtful touch that shows how seriously the team takes aquascaping and tank setup. The staff is the throughline in nearly every review. Names like Justin, Taylor, and Skyler come up again and again, usually paired with the word patient.
One shrimp-keeper described a half-hour conversation about die-off and algae that ended with a pair of oto catfish she adored; another couple drove two hours for a replacement tank and found everything prepped and ready when they arrived. The shop also fills RO water, services and cleans tanks at rates customers call reasonable, and special-orders anything it doesn't keep on the shelf. Clean, well-organized, and run by people who keep tanks themselves, Fish Gallery is the Athens, GA aquarium store for anyone building a planted community tank, stocking a reef, or just trying to keep their first shrimp alive.

— Jason Machen5.0a month ago“It's important to remember that fish are living beings and not products. This owner buys the cheapest fish available from the most inbred fish farms, has absolute no concern for the long term health of the fish as long as he's getting paid. I've been shopping here for two years. I love my fish, and try my best to keep the tanks as pristine as possible, but over and over my fish keep dying from fatal genetic diseases within a few months. It's a horrific system of inbreeding and disease from poor quality fish farms that this store absolutely supports. If you want fish, try rehoming some from your community (Facebook and Reddit can be a good place to ask around), or shop somewhere with more ethical suppliers. Staff are very sweet and mean well, they're very underpaid and often understaffed so I don't blame them for the condition of some of the tanks. There are dead fish and ich all over the place. Important to note that some tanks are very beautiful though and seem loved. If you want healthy fish that will live a long time, avoid this store and any others that supports the cruel culture of inbreeding which is ruining the aquarium hobby.”

— Ashley Flick5.02 months ago“LOVE this place. Go there often for my cichlids”
— Jade Resmondo5.02 months ago“We have bought fish here multiple times and almost every time I’ve gotten fish they have died even with perfectly fine water conditions. The fish are cool but almost all of them have finrot or are dead. This place does not look like they take care of their fish very well and I am done buying fish from here I do not recommend buying from here!”
