About
Tucked into the Miami landscape, Miami Aquariums is a compact but richly stocked shop that draws hobbyists from across the city with its dual focus on freshwater and saltwater livestock. Owner Leo has built a loyal following through genuine, education-first customer interactions — when one reviewer lost an angelfish, Leo walked them through what may have gone wrong and helped them feel confident moving forward. That personal touch runs throughout the entire operation.
The freshwater side is a particular standout. Reviewers rave about the plant selection — healthy, gorgeous specimens at prices well below what other Miami stores charge, plus driftwood and rocks for aquascaping setups. The shop also stocks discus in eye-catching tank displays and has sold wild arowanas that left buyers stunned by the quality-to-price ratio.
On the saltwater side, you'll find a strong coral inventory with plenty of zoanthid varieties, rainbow bubble tip anemones, and a broader invertebrate selection. One reviewer even spotted nurse sharks and black spotted groupers for those running truly massive systems. The store carries a full range of dry goods and equipment alongside the livestock, making it a genuine one-stop shop for tank builds.
Staff will walk you through setting up a new aquarium and explain environmental needs for whatever animal you're taking home — including turtles, which they also carry. Water testing is available on-site, though at least one saltwater hobbyist felt the basic three-parameter test didn't justify the $8 charge. The space itself was recently remodeled and reviewers note the tanks are kept spotless — crystal-clear water with healthy stock throughout.
It's a bilingual operation serving Miami's diverse community, with Spanish-speaking staff who offer the same patient, detailed guidance. A few reviewers have flagged inconsistent hours and difficulty reaching the store by phone, so calling ahead or checking their schedule before driving over is wise. But when the doors are open, Miami Aquariums delivers a warm, knowledgeable shopping experience with competitive pricing that keeps customers coming back.

Customer reviews
“I have been buying fish and aquarium supplies from this store for many years, which is why it is very disappointing to leave this review. Unfortunately, after my recent experiences, I have decided that I will never be returning. One of the biggest issues was a worker making inappropriate comments toward my daughter, who is a minor. As a parent, I found this completely unacceptable, unprofessional, and very uncomfortable. That experience alone was enough to make me question whether I wanted to continue supporting this business. I also had an extremely poor experience with the livestock I purchased. Out of the four fish this employee sold me, three were already extremely sick, and all three eventually passed away. Not only was this frustrating and expensive, but it also put the health of the rest of my aquarium at risk. What made the situation even worse was the lack of knowledge displayed by the employee. On multiple occasions, I asked whether certain fish were reef safe. Rather than providing accurate information, I was repeatedly told things such as "I'm not sure" or "it's 50/50." In several cases, I already knew the fish was absolutely not reef safe, which led me to believe that the employee was simply trying to make a sale rather than giving honest advice. This happened with multiple fish, not just one. I was also very concerned about the condition of the fish in the store. The female bettas being kept together in a tiny tank had visibly torn fins and appeared unhealthy. Seeing fish housed in those conditions was upsetting and raised serious concerns about the overall care of the animals. As a longtime customer, it is sad to say that I can no longer recommend this store. Between the inappropriate behavior toward my daughter, being sold multiple sick fish, the misleading advice, and the poor condition of some of the livestock, I have completely lost confidence in this business. I sincerely hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes changes, but unfortunately, I will not be returning.”

They are deeply knowledgeable, attentive, and consistently go well beyond what one would expect to ensure a positive experience. I do not typically take the time to write reviews, but this shop more than merits the recognition. I recommend them without reservation. If I could assign 100 stars, I would do so without hesitation. For anything related to aquariums, I strongly encourage a visit. You will not be disappointed.”

You can tell immediately that he is truly passionate about fish and their well-being. He took the time to explain what may have happened, offered thoughtful advice, and made me feel supported rather than rushed or pressured. For Leo, it’s not just about selling fish — it’s about education, proper care, and making sure customers feel confident and informed. His guidance has helped tremendously, and his customer service is outstanding. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for honest advice and someone who genuinely cares about the hobby”
