About
Dan's Fish is a freshwater fish store rooted in Sheridan, Wyoming that has earned an almost reverent reputation among hobbyists for the health and vitality of its livestock. Run by Dan — a familiar face to many through his long-running YouTube channel — the shop is built on a near-fanatical commitment to quarantine: incoming stock is held for a minimum of two weeks, with gill scrapings and lab diagnostics performed before any fish is offered for sale. Reviewers who have kept aquariums for decades describe the quality as the best they have encountered, and one keeper of 52 years called it the finest experience he has had in the hobby.
The selection leans into community freshwater species, and the favorites are well documented by customers. You will find ember tetras, rummynose tetras, celestial pearl danios, gardneri killifish, German Blue and Electric Blue Rams, harlequin rasboras, rainbowfish, kissing rice fish, long-fin white cloud mountain minnows, and cherry barbs. Livebearer fans seek out Santa Maria endlers, variatus platies, double swordtail guppies, and red alpha swordtails — fish known to drop fry within days of settling in.
For anyone hunting pygmy cory catfish, hillstream loaches, nerite snails, or cherry shrimp for sale in Sheridan, WY, the stock runs deep, and rarities like CPDs and gardneri killis keep collectors coming back. What sets the place apart is Dan himself. Customers call him one of the most dedicated people in the hobby — the kind of owner who would rather hold a fish back than sell one that is not up to par.
He and his staff are quick to share guidance, warn you off a problem fish (one shopper was steered away from a Chinese algae eater), and explain the background of species you already keep. Prices sit above big-box pet stores, but the people who shop here consider the difference money well spent. For local freshwater fishkeepers searching for healthy, carefully raised stock near me, Dan's Fish has become a genuine benchmark.

Customer reviews
“The quality of the fish is excellent; especially my big red devil angelfish. I also ordered a bunch of harlequin rasboras, which are very hardy. They all arrived ok via the mail. The rummy nose tetras did not survive the trip. The only thing I don't like is you can't speak to them via phone. But they did quickly refund me for the rummy nose.”
— Terri Walsh4.02 weeks ago“These fish are great and well packaged and been buying from dans a long time now and not one problem yet good place to buy from”
— Justin Conner5.03 weeks ago“I have been ordering from Dansfish for a few years now. Every order has arrived healthy every time. They do an exceptional job at shipping their fish. Each fish gets its own bag to keep the water safe during transit. That’s a big deal and their shipping prices are best around for over night.”
— Kurt Brutting5.03 weeks ago“What Dan’s fish does in the Aquarium hobby is nothing short of amazing. They should be a role model and probably are for the industry. I have ordered many times from them and each and every time the fish that we received were healthy, lively, and beautiful looking they go the extra mile, and that is why you will pay more and For what you are getting in return it is totally justified. The time it must take them to pack an order of each fish individually bagged in a heavy duty double lining bag that is heat sealed. There isn’t a day that goes by that I find myself always scrolling through their fish selections on their website. It was carefully Set up an easy to navigate. Their customer service is extremely courteous and professional And they go to great lengths to accommodate my special requests and if for any reason, a fish is not up to par, they would Rather not send it, which in my experience has rarely ever happened because of their quarantine practices. Dan is an amazing man, one of the most dedicated Person I know in this awesome hobby. He goes out of his way to not only sell you fish, but to educate and clarify any questions or concerns that you may have. Thank you, Dan and the entire Staff ❤️”
— Domenick CHILELLI5.0a month ago“Me and my partner ordered 8 red alpha swordtails from them one arrived dead which they refunded very quickly, which is why I gave 2stars. Out of the other 7 only 1 was alive after two weeks. They acted sick blind then died even after trying to treat them. we have raised swordtails for years and currently have multiple different breeds of swordtails we breed and sell to fish stores locally so we are not new to this. The water was fine and well established and they have been the only swordtails that we have gotten shipped that have died on us. And even afterwards we put our other swordtails we planned on culling in the same 150 gallon indoor pond the red alphas died in along with the sole survivor and they all did fine. Sad because they were soooo expensive. Hopefully it was a one off experience because they are beautiful fish but will not be buying from them again.”
— Jaebie Nicole2.0a month ago“I could not be more satisfied with this company. I have wanted fish and researched fish for almost 10 years now and finally started my tank. I did not want to support big box pet stores, and I also felt off about even the aquarium shops near me. The pricing and the shipping were absolutely worth it . I purchased eight ember tetra, six pygmy Corey, four shrimp and three snails. All came happy, healthy, and are continuing to thrive. So so happy I ordered from dans fish! They clearly care about the hobby and the happiness of their creatures.”

— Benjamin Benson5.0a month ago“I'm extremely pleased with my order! I emailed about the best fish to add to my aquarium. He not only gave me great recommendations, but, he also warned me about a Chinese alage eater that was in my tank. He gave me background information on the fish I already had, that I wouldn't have known about otherwise. I'm in SC. My shipment was delayed by one day, but, my fish looked great when they arrived. They each had their own bag. It's been almost a month since my fish arrived, and they are doing well. I highly recommend ordering from Dan's Fish. The fish are reasonably priced, and worth the extra money for proper shipping. I absolutely plan to order more in the coming months!”
