About
Sue's Pet Castle has been a St. George institution for decades — long enough that locals who grew up shopping there are now bringing their own kids through the doors. Under the ownership of Jose and Corey, this Southern Utah pet store has maintained its reputation as the go-to destination for fish, reptiles, and just about any creature you can imagine.
The fish section carries both freshwater and saltwater species, and multiple reviewers note that the tanks are consistently clean and well-maintained. One self-described "fish guy" who struggled to find a decent shop anywhere in Southern Utah calls Sue's his "home away from home," praising the staff for making sure customers leave with fish appropriate for their specific setup. Long-time customers report fish purchased here outlasting those from competing stores by significant margins, a testament to the health of the livestock.
Beyond fish, Sue's is packed with reptiles — snakes, crested geckos, turtles, and newts among them. Staff member Jose has hands-on experience setting up bioactive terrariums, and the reptile enclosures are regularly noted as clean and well-kept. The store also stocks axolotls, which have earned their own enthusiastic one-word reviews.
Birds, rodents (including responsibly bred mice and rats), and the occasional puppy or kitten round out the live animal selection. The supply side covers food, feeders (including the cheapest feeder fish in St. George, per one regular), and feeder insects that reviewers describe as the best quality in town.
Staff members like Corey, Mason, and Jose are consistently praised for offering honest advice without upselling — a refreshing approach that keeps regulars coming back. Sue's Pet Castle isn't without its critics; some find prices higher than big-box competitors, and a handful of reviews mention concerns about enclosure cleanliness. But the overwhelming consensus from hundreds of reviews points to a store where animals come first and the staff genuinely knows their stuff.
For St. George pet owners looking for a real, independently owned pet shop with personality and expertise, Sue's delivers.

— Kristin Banks Shumway5.0a month ago“Great place. However, i tried to order a reptile a few times they said they'd call me and I haven't yet received that phone call. Aside from that, definitely a 5 star pet store.”
— Kellie Cameron5.0a month ago“They need to get a bigger cage for the two large dogs and two big cats they have. And the smell is horrible.”
— Jenna Miles1.02 months ago“Sue’s Pet Castle is the glorious result of what happens when a lovable crazy cat lady gets a business license and zero adult supervision. I walked in expecting kittens and chew toys but Sue greeted me with a ferret wearing a cape and a turtle doing laps like it was training for the Olympics in slow motion. Every corner of the store feels like Sue just said “Oooh I NEED that animal!” and added it to the ever growing Kingdom of Chaos. She even told me they’re expanding next Spring to include African wildlife because in her words, “a lion cub is basically just a spicy house cat.” Silly Sue! I don’t know whether to be concerned or to preorder my emotional support giraffe. Five stars, can’t wait to see what she domesticates next.”
