Tucked into Millcreek, Utah, C2C Tropics is a family-run freshwater fish store that radiates genuine passion from the moment you walk through the door. Owner Travis and his team have built something special here — a shop where every tank tells a story, cichlids blow sand nests right in front of you, and pregnant shrimp come home with your purchase because the livestock is just that healthy. The store's dedication to chemical-free, organic-style planted tanks is immediately apparent.
Lush, overgrown aquascapes fill the space with personality, and everything inside them — plants, fish, shrimp, snails — is for sale. Their live plant selection draws repeat customers who stock entire tanks from C2C's inventory, from tiger lily bulbs and wisteria to Salvinia floaters. If you're into planted tanks, aquascaping, or ecosystem aquariums, this is a destination.
Axolotls are a signature offering, with an entire dedicated room housing batches of healthy, active specimens — some of which glow under blacklight, a detail that absolutely delights visiting kids. At prices like $10 per axolotl, the value is hard to beat. The freshwater livestock selection extends to neocaridina shrimp in various colors, vampire shrimp, guppies, bettas, mudskippers, and unique or rare species sourced from local breeders and hobbyists in the Salt Lake City area.
Travis has a knack for repurposing tanks, vases, and unique glass containers into creative setups, and you'll spot works-in-progress throughout the lobby. Gently used aquarium equipment and discounted tanks of various sizes round out the dry goods offerings. The staff's approach is refreshingly low-pressure — no hovering, just genuine enthusiasm and deep knowledge shared freely.
Multiple reviewers mention receiving surprise freebies: extra plants tucked into bags, rocks thrown in at checkout, bonus shrimp. C2C Tropics thrives on the philosophy that healthy, comfortable animals in well-established tanks speak louder than any sales pitch. 9-star rating across 88 reviews reflects a community that has found its go-to freshwater shop.

Over the last couple of weeks my wife and I have been going to a bunch if fish stores in the valley and I have to say hands down this is the best one, the atmosphere is amazing, the people working are super kind and knowledgeable, you can tell they love their jobs. I would recommend anyone within the valley to come here for their aquarium needs. Great place.

Before I walked in, I saw their axolotl sign. It’s cute and I knew I picked the right store. I’ve been to a couple other ones but this is the only fish shop that I’ve been to that goes above and beyond for their fish. All their tanks are established and personally, I may be biased but their organic tanks are top tier. I love the overgrown look to their tanks and the natural setups. Their shop had a ton of personality and plants. I also saw one of the cichlids making a nest and blowing sand out of its mouth. And it just shows how comfortable they are enough to breed. They were producing natural behaviors and it’s so nice to see, unlike other places I’ve been to. Everything in their tanks are for sale, the plants, the fish, shrimp, snails, etc. The customer service was also really nice. No hovering over you, just a chill environment overall. I didn’t know his name but maybe he was the owner? I got a tiger lily bulb and some wisteria. I originally wanted to get some Salvinia. But I ended up not getting them due to a budget I had that day. I didn’t tell him I wanted Salvinia floaters at the time cause I didn’t go forward with it, but he ended up putting a handful of floaters with the wisteria. WHICH WERE SALVINIA. I was so happy, it made my day and I had a fun time seeing my bettas be curious about the new setup. Will definitely be coming back, thank you :3

I love this freshwater store! They are super informative and they can answer any question under the sun for you! I am building a freshwater tank and had tons of questions and the dad (one of the owners) helped me find exactly what I was looking for. He even threw in the rocks and a really pretty seashell that I wanted for FREE when I was checking out! They keep everything in tanks and they take care of their animals and plants very well! He even told me when they get their plants shipped in so I can come by and look at the plants before they are all sold! 10/10 recommend!

The store is a little smaller but that doesn't mean there is a lack of selection! There are a ton of fish to pick from and tons of axolotls!! We purchased an axolotl and it is healthy and active. The owners are extremely helpful and super nice!! Definitely recommend them.
