About
Dogpatch Pet Shop is a long-running, independently owned shop in Texarkana, TX, and while it's a full-service pet store first, its fish section gives local aquarists a homegrown alternative to the big-box chains. Regulars come specifically for the coldwater stock: shubunkins and pond comets that reviewers have repeatedly singled out as healthy and well-kept. One customer noted the fish at the nearby corporate store were all riddled with ich, while Dogpatch had shubunkins and pond comets in great health.
If you're hunting goldfish and pond fish for sale in Texarkana, TX, this is one of the few non-chain counters in town carrying them. The selection is modest. This is a smaller store, and the fish tanks share floor space with a rotating cast of puppies, ferrets, parakeets, snakes, leopard geckos, bearded dragons, and tarantulas.
What the shop lacks in square footage it tends to make up for in attention: a recent visitor described it as a small store with limited merchandise where what they do have seems to be high quality and well taken care of, picking up a snake that's stayed happy and healthy. Another shopper keeps coming back not just for her snake but for the feeder mice to go with it. Staff are the recurring highlight in newer reviews.
The owner runs the place hands-on, one customer has trusted him with her sixteen-year-old Akita's nail trims for over five years, and the team is repeatedly called friendly, patient, and quick to answer questions. Alongside fish and small animals, Dogpatch stocks glass terrariums, wire cages, aquariums, and food across pet categories, and they'll order in items they don't keep on the shelf. It's worth knowing prices can run a bit high and the return window is strict, so look livestock over carefully before you buy.
But for Texarkana shoppers who'd rather support a local fish store than a chain, Dogpatch remains a friendly, personal stop.

Hopes this jogs your memory. Recently I was looking for a companion for my Ferret I had been in there multiple times over a years time frame looking for the perfect ferret for my baby, finally I seen this little baby girl ferret she was the color I wanted and looking like she had the attitude I needed. Well I went and tried asking them about buying her and the woman going to talk about she just got in from shipping so we want her to calm down before anyone gets her. Firstly what’s she doing on the sales floor then? Secondly there are people walking by tapping glass calling her, you think she’s “getting comfortable.?” Before she asked for my number to write down she compared me to some young girl she said called her on the phone talking about she wanted her but sounding unsure about getting her Idk the conversation but she told me to write my number down and when She got comfortable, she said she would call me. Ma’am, it’s been two weeks. I’m not playing with you anymore. You’ve always had a little nasty attitude. Every time I came in there and so this is the last straw I’ve never did anything to you. I’ve always been very polite and you judged me on the phone call that you got before I got there that was not me that was unfair. I’ll take my business somewhere else and I’ll actually drive even a couple hours to get what I want just not to have to deal with you again thank you for the horrible service.”

— Ashley Wilson5.04 months ago“They are a joke, underfed animals that are wayyyyy over priced. Try to act like they are better at animal care then the customer that is going in to buy a specific animal. Which should tell them that the customer knows enough about diet and care to want to buy that specific animal. They try to also so their puppies under age they currently have Shih Tzu right now and they are almost 8 weeks old, but they’re not eight weeks old yet they also sell skinny pigs and they underfeed all of their reptiles and snakes. None of their reptiles and snakes really have high to hide in so they’re hiding in their food and water dishes, and behind them to stay away from the heat lamp”

— A B1.0a month ago“They will take the pet back and resell it but won’t refund or even consider an in store credit even if you only have the animal for 2 hours before bringing it back. What a scam. Spoke with the manager today and he would not work with me at all. He pretty much admitted that they have refunded people for pets in situations like this before but wasn’t going to do it for us. 0 customer service. Go ANYWHERE else.”
