About
" This airy, well-organized shop on the north side of Houston has earned a devoted following among reef hobbyists and freshwater keepers alike, and it's easy to see why. The sheer volume of livestock — saltwater fish, corals, freshwater species, and live plants — fills the space wall to wall, and owner Jamal has built a reputation for stocking uncommon and hard-to-find species that you simply won't see at the big-box pet stores. The saltwater side is a standout.
Reviewers consistently call it the best reef store in the Greater Houston area, praising the rotating coral selection and healthy saltwater fish at competitive prices. But the freshwater section holds its own with cichlids, tetras, guppies, bettas, and a variety of aquatic plants that draw hobbyists from as far as Lake Charles, Louisiana. Staff member Bobby earned particular praise for remembering a phone conversation days later and helping a customer immediately upon arrival, and Matthew has been singled out for his thoughtful recommendations.
The floor is typically staffed with multiple employees ready to answer questions — a detail that matters when you're choosing livestock or troubleshooting a tank issue. Staff knowledge runs deep on reef keeping, plant compatibility, and general husbandry, though a few reviewers have noted occasional gaps in disease identification. The store also carries tanks, hardware, food, and dry goods, making it a genuine one-stop shop for aquarium needs.
Pricing is frequently described as the best in town, especially for freshwater fish, though saltwater livestock runs higher as expected. The tanks are kept clean, the fish look healthy, and the vibe is relaxed and welcoming. Labor Day weekend deals and other seasonal promotions sweeten the trip.
Note that they're closed on Mondays. For anyone in the Houston metro area willing to make the drive to Spring, That Aquarium Place delivers one of the most impressive livestock selections in the region.

— Peter Giannangelo5.03 months ago“What a great find! I was looking for a new freshwater aquarium store, as the one closest to me didn't have the kind of plants I needed, so we decided to give the Aquarium Place a try. Immediately was offered help from a very knowledgeable young man to find out that the kinds of plants I were looking for, are generally not available anywhere (The other store didn't tell me that) we proceed to have a nice chat about my needs, wants and tank condition. It was so refreshing! The variety of fish species, both fresh and saltwater, was amazing and the prices were the best I've seen it town. All the fish looked healthy, with no signs of disease. Would definitely recommend them.”
