Tucked into Fort Worth's aquarium scene, The Fish Place has built a devoted following among hobbyists who keep coming back for its deep livestock selection, well-maintained tanks, and staff who genuinely enjoy talking fish. Owner Jerry runs the kind of operation where customers aren't just transactions — regulars mention being greeted by name, and even the shop dogs make an appearance. The store covers freshwater, saltwater, and brackish water setups, stocking everything from vampire swordtails and plecos to marine specimens and feeder snails.
Their live plant selection is extensive, with options ranging from discount plants for a dollar to premium aquatic species that complement planted tank builds. Corals and invertebrates round out the saltwater side, and the shrimp selection has earned its own fans. What sets The Fish Place apart is their old-school approach to quarantine on the saltwater side.
Each marine tank holds just a few specimens with clearly posted observation dates, so buyers know exactly how long a fish has been in-house before they take it home. It's not flashy, but it's the kind of transparency that earns trust from serious reef keepers. Staff members like Gilbert, Sam, and Littleton come up repeatedly in reviews — and for good reason.
Gilbert is known for walking first-time tank owners through months of questions with patience and expertise. Sam won over a 13-year-old turtle enthusiast and his family on a single phone call. Littleton handles marine aquarium setup and maintenance, including a stunning 175-gallon build that one customer credits with adding genuine beauty to their home.
The consultation here is real and unhurried. Multiple reviewers describe visiting repeatedly over weeks or months to ask questions before buying a single fish, and never feeling rushed. Staff will honestly tell you what your tank size can accommodate rather than just making a sale.
With over 100 species on display at any given time, competitive pricing, a military discount, and occasional buy-one-get-one deals, The Fish Place delivers the full local fish store experience Fort Worth hobbyists deserve.

Came in to ask a bunch of questions about how to establish a tank and the staff is absolutely amazing. They were patient and thorough with all their explanations. I thought i knew what type of fish i wanted and could have in the aquarium size i had but they were very diligent in explaining what my tank could properly accommodate. The selection they have was impressive as well, i really did not expect to see so many fish inside the store. They sell water for the aquariums and they have bacteria and stuff to help establish a tank, it was very eye opening but they are so helpful. I will be getting fish for my kids for christmas and will definitely be coming here when i am ready to purchase them in a few weeks. They also have all kinds of live plants which was exciting to see. Definitely the one stop shop for all things fish!
