About

Axolotl Planet does exactly one thing, and it does it with rare devotion: this is a Dallas, TX shop built entirely around the care, breeding, and sale of axolotls, the freshwater salamander that has earned a cult following across DFW. Where most fish stores in Dallas spread themselves thin across hundreds of species, owner Drew and his team — Mike, Michael, Jacob, and the rest — pour all their attention into these endangered amphibians, and visitors notice the difference the moment they walk in. The selection is the draw.

Reviewers describe rows of healthy, active axolotls in a wide range of morphs and colors — albinos, GFP melanoids, and wild-types among them — with juveniles and rare color varieties for sale in Dallas, TX that you simply won't find at a general pet shop. Customers repeatedly praise the pristine, well-maintained tanks; one regular noted the enclosures stay clean and clear "unlike most" aquatic shops. Many families keep coming back, now raising four or more axolotls all sourced here.

Drew is the name in nearly every review. He's described as patient and genuinely caring, walking first-time owners through tank cycling, water care, feeding, and even tank design before they ever take an animal home. The team has held purchased axolotls while customers finished cycling their tanks, offers boarding — a real rarity in this niche — and keeps rescue axolotls alongside their bred stock for ethically minded keepers.

There's even a trusted earthworm feeding service for ongoing care. Beyond shopping, it's a calm, educational place to visit. Kids and adults alike linger at the tanks asking questions, and the staff happily welcomes browsers who just want to learn.

8-star reputation one happy salamander at a time.

  • “Me and my family had a great experience in purchasing our Axolotl’s and everything else we needed, and things we didn’t know we needed. It was a tremendous learning experience as the team there was well equipped to inform and answer all of our questions. They went above and beyond in many ways. The shop was amazing and the team takes very good care of all the Axolotol’s.”

  • “Edit: Let the record show that I do live in Dallas. I have a local guide badge. Since you went through my review history, you're aware of that. In fact, I live within a short driving distance of your location and am willing to visit again, if you'd like, to give a "fair" review. Below will show proof of the fact I live here. Reviewing my history, you're also aware of the fact that I have left reviews without comment before. You can visit a place and review it later, even if the business is closed. You can also review businesses based on publicly available information, especially whenever you ship these animals and are not solely based in the Dallas area because of this fact. Don't own a business if you can't handle negative reviews. I didn't want to comment because that's my right, but since you want to be sassy, let me put my thoughts. In my opinion, this place is the axolotl equivalent of a puppy mill. The tanks are depressing. Axolotls don't have eyelids and need adequate shelter from light - there is nothing in their tanks at all. I understand axolotls can eat things they shouldn't. That's when you put plants or tank safe objects that are too large for them to ingest. Axolotls should not be pets to begin with. They are a critically endangered species. You're welcome. I hope you know what to make of this now. 😊 Edit 2: I don't agree with you or your contradicting points lol. Simple as that. I could respond point by point but I'm not going to, considering Google reviews are meant to be simple and reflect my opinion. They aren't debate stages. I'm going to point out the most glaring inconsistencies though. You say the bare tanks are intentional because enrichment objects can compromise water quality, but then you say you maintain a fully enriched model habitat and encourage customers to recreate it. So do axolotls need appropriate habitat features or not? Because your answer changes depending on which part of the criticism you’re responding to. Not to mention you completely skated around my point about axolotls being a critically endangered species that belong in the wild. The irony of you saying this isn't like a puppy mill after stating you've handled over 10,000 axolotls too. That is certainly not at all helping you beat the volume-based breeding claims. Just saying. Put simply, I believe what you do is unethical and I'm not a fan. One star. Still.”
