About
Fish Pro's Aquarium Center in Amarillo, Texas is a sprawling aquatic and exotic animal destination that has grown far beyond a typical fish store. The front of the house features rows of freshwater and saltwater tanks with a solid selection of tropical fish — reviewers mention picking up sunburst angelfish, gouramis, cichlids, and various community fish for tanks as small as 20 gallons. A koi pond draws attention near the back, and staff members like Greg are known for helping customers pair compatible species and build out their home aquariums from scratch.
But what truly sets Fish Pro's apart is the paid "zoo" experience in the back room. For a few dollars per person, visitors get a guided tour through an exotic animal area featuring snakes, lizards, bearded dragons, iguanas, turtles, alligators, ferrets, rabbits, macaws, and more. Tour guides like Brisket, Jason, and Hayden earn consistent praise for their enthusiasm — letting kids hold snakes, pet ferrets, and learn fun facts about each creature.
Birthday parties have become a popular draw, with staff bringing out animals for groups of kids in a hands-on, educational setting. The fish retail side remains the foundation. Customers report a wide range of freshwater fish with decent saltwater options, plus dry goods and aquarium supplies.
Staff are generally praised as knowledgeable and passionate, particularly when helping newcomers choose their first fish or set up a new tank. It's worth noting that some visitors have raised concerns about animal enclosure cleanliness and the condition of certain reptiles, and the store's phone responsiveness gets occasional criticism. The exotic animal side of the operation is clearly ambitious, and opinions vary on how well it's executed.
Still, Fish Pro's is the biggest aquatic store in the Amarillo area and draws visitors from hours away — including road-trippers from Big Spring. For anyone in the Texas Panhandle looking for tropical fish, pond fish, or a genuinely unique afternoon with the family, it delivers an experience that's hard to find elsewhere in the region.

— johnathan lopez3.0a month ago“This place used to be so awesome when it was the smaller location and mostly just fish. Now they have more animals including their aquatarium with all the exotics and everytime over the last yr we go in it looks like something is dying. And one time we had to tell 2 different employees that they had a dead beardie, the first said it was sleeping but we knew the sunken eyes and dry skin wasn't it "sleeping". The second confirmed it was dead. The more I learn about these animals and their requirements the more I see regular neglect. It makes me sick seeing the snakes that can't have a healthy shed because of the lack of humidity and heat. Don't contain and sell animals if you don't know what they require. Stick to what you do know. This is horrible.”
— Justin H1.0a month ago“Wide variety fish to choose from. Amazing to visit with kids as they can feed and touch certain animals. Staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and has passion for what they do.”
— Morné Koen5.0a month ago“They have such a great exhibit for the price. Their employees are extremely knowledgeable and so friendly towards everyone(especially the kiddos). Very much a hands on experience. They allow you to hold and pet several of the animals. Could not recommend them enough for a Sunday afternoon. Everytime we have gone I have learned something new!”

— Tanton Fuller5.0a month ago“This place was big but their prices are way more expensive for same items from other stores. Their so called zoo looks like someone just decided to hoard bunch of animals their cages were all dirty they smell horribly. Alot of the snakes looked sickly.”
