About
Tucked into a maze of buildings, tents, and outdoor garden spaces in Grants Pass, OR, Frog Prince Aquatics is less a typical aquarium store than a sprawling private aquatic zoo you wander through. Plenty of first-timers drive past the half-marked entrance before finding their way in, and once they do, they tend to come back for decades. A massive koi pond out back, home to fish reportedly more than 60 years old, sets the tone for a place that genuinely lives and breathes aquatic life.
Pond keepers across southern Oregon make the trip here, and recent visitors still call it the best place in Southern Oregon to get live fish. The selection of butterfly koi, standard koi, and goldfish for sale in Grants Pass, OR runs deep, and the pond plant collection draws constant praise: water lilies, aquatic grasses, and more, each clearly labeled with descriptions and prices. One shopper this spring picked up the exact pond plants her husband had been hunting for, and others come simply for the pond critters.
Beyond the ponds, you will find freshwater tropical fish, saltwater species, mystery snails, cherry shrimp, fish food, and a driftwood and aquarium wood selection that regulars call the best in the region. The store has even taken in rehomed axolotls and dismantled a 65-gallon setup on short notice, the kind of above-and-beyond gesture that builds long-term trust. Reviewers single out Richard and Miguel for patient, thorough answers, and the staff once repaired a customer's pond pump and charged only for the part.
The layout can be disorienting, and prices range from dirt cheap on plants to a touch steep on livestock, so it pays to wander and ask. But for koi, goldfish, and pond plants near me in the Grants Pass area, Frog Prince Aquatics remains an essential, genuinely one-of-a-kind destination for freshwater and pond hobbyists.

“Good selection, but prices are a little steep. Clerk had an aggressive Rottweiler behind the counter that made entering the store intimidating.”

— Julie Van Valkenburg5.0a month ago“If I could give a lower star rating I would. I purchased 9 Neon Green Rasboras for my female beta tank. Upon getting home half were dead. By morning I had 3 left. I called Frog Prince Aquatics and was told I should have kept the dead bodies to bring as evidence (I have 3 small kids and didn’t want dead fish hanging out for them to see). I was told that they would call me later after observing the fish. I got the call that they had an Ick break out in their tank at the store! Upon further inspection all three live fish had visible Ick. I Was told I couldn’t get a refund until I informed them I had no income right now and had saved money for these fish. They wanted me to purchase my own ick medication as well. I’m incredibly upset.”
