PNW Bettas in Corvallis, Oregon, is exactly what its name promises — a shop built around a genuine love of bettas — but step inside and you'll find it's much more than that. The bright, meticulously clean storefront houses an impressive freshwater selection that includes guppies, Black Bar Endlers, shrimp varieties like Green Rili Neocaridina, snails, and a rotating cast of harder-to-find tropical species. The live plant selection is substantial, and aquascaping materials round out a curated inventory of fishkeeping supplies.
The bettas, though, are the stars. Customers routinely describe them as some of the healthiest, most vibrant fish they've ever seen — a far cry from the cups lining big-box pet store shelves. The shop also runs an adoption program for bettas that need a second chance, complete with honest disclosures about each fish's condition.
It's that kind of transparency that defines the PNW Bettas experience. The owner, who multiple reviewers describe as deeply knowledgeable and endlessly patient, has built a store that functions as much as a learning space as a retail shop. Staff member Carlos has helped customers build tanks from scratch, and the owner herself has been known to spend over an hour walking first-time fishkeepers through betta care and tank stocking without a hint of rushing.
One reviewer recounted how patient the staff was with their autistic daughter, who was overwhelmed with excitement at all the fish. As an Aquarium Co-Op partner store, PNW Bettas carries trusted dry goods alongside its livestock. They also operate an online store and ship bettas nationally, with reviewers praising the careful packaging and quick delivery — fish arriving lively and in excellent health.
The community energy here is palpable. This is a shop where people name their fish Blue Cheese, send update photos months later, and drive from out of town just to restock on shrimp and food. For freshwater enthusiasts in the Willamette Valley, PNW Bettas has earned its devoted following one beautifully finned fish at a time.

I waited for 2 weeks to have this betta shipped, it came as expected, looking exhausted, but on the side that this betta was not posted on the website his head is deformed. If I knew this would have never purchase it. Honestly when I first bought it and paid for it, i thought I was gonna ship out that same Monday like it said on the website. Regardless there was stickers to be printed or not. This betta is not high quality and should have been posted with a disclaimer on its post about its deformity. I’ve seen better betta in Petco and PetSmart, as well on eBay which I’ve purchase from before. I was not happy with this purchase.(ofc no response ever)

Super helpful and knowledgeable staff. I've gotten all of my shrimp and guppies here, who all have gorgeous color and health! Well worth the drive out of town to get food or new fish.

Carlos helped me start a new tank from scratch and today sold me my very first shrimp! Not only does the store have a great variety at reasonable prices, but the staff are so knowledgeable and approachable. I knew nothing about aquaria before I started and now I have a really good understanding of how to care for my tank. Couldn't recommend enough.
