Paradise Aquarium has been a fixture in the Ridgewood, New York neighborhood for many years, operating as a family-run shop that serves the local fishkeeping community with both freshwater and saltwater livestock alongside aquarium supplies. The store stocks a range of tropical fish — including guppies, corydoras, and other popular species — as well as aquatic plants and shrimp, making it a convenient one-stop destination for hobbyists in the area. The shop draws a loyal crowd thanks to its competitive pricing and a staff that many customers describe as friendly and knowledgeable.
Spanish-speaking customers have also praised the attentive service, noting the store's welcoming atmosphere. Longtime patrons speak of Paradise Aquarium with genuine affection, citing its longevity and honest, no-frills approach to business as reasons they keep coming back. That said, the store's track record is mixed.
Some customers have reported repeated fish losses shortly after purchase, raising concerns about the health and quarantine practices for livestock. Multiple reviews also flag tank cleanliness and general store upkeep as areas that could use improvement. These aren't isolated complaints — they come from people who clearly wanted to love the shop and found themselves disappointed after giving it several chances.
At its best, Paradise Aquarium delivers what a neighborhood fish store should: accessible prices, a decent selection of freshwater fish, live plants, and shrimp, and the kind of personal service you only get from a family business that's been rooted in one community for years. For Ridgewood residents looking to pick up supplies or browse livestock without a long commute, it remains a practical option. However, anyone purchasing fish would be wise to observe the tanks carefully and ask about recent arrivals before buying.
The foundation is there — the store just needs to invest more consistently in the health of its animals and the upkeep of its space to fully earn the "paradise" in its name.

Tried to take a look at their website after passing by and the website keeps coming back as if it’s been hacked. No good.

Customer service is always good, and the selection is nice. Im disappointed because the last 3 times I've bought fish from here ive had losses within 2 days. This past time ive lost 4 guppies within 3 days and 1 corydora. My tank is well established so this shouldn't happ3n. If it was a one off I wouldn't bother writing. But it's been 3 of the 4 times ive bought fish from here. Which is unacceptable. Unfortunately I will no longer be shopping here which is unfortunate considering it's such a convenient store to my home.

Out of all the aquarium shops ive visited, this has to be the worst experience. The kids working there clearly dont wanna be there and i can only imagine how well the animals are being taken care of at the shop. The shop seems dirty and poor hygiene. The tanks are dirty and not being give the care they need. Sad.
