About That Pond Place

Tucked into Stewartsville, New Jersey, That Pond Place is the kind of specialty store that pond owners drive an hour to reach — and then can't leave for two. Owned and operated by Mike and Christina, this dedicated pond supply shop goes far beyond what you'd find in a garden center's water feature aisle. The outdoor grounds alone feel like a destination, with display ponds, lush aquatic plants, and koi swimming through crystal-clear water.

Visitors regularly describe the experience as walking into an oasis. The plant selection is genuinely impressive. Water lilies, hyacinths, lotus, hardy marginals — the variety and health of the stock keeps customers coming back season after season.

One reviewer reported their lotus "exploding" in the pond within weeks of purchase, with healthy growth and blooms on the way. Beyond plants, the shop stocks koi, goldfish, tadpoles, driftwood by the ton, rocks, filtration systems, aerators, and bacteria treatments for water clarity. If it's pond-related, it's likely on the shelves or in the outdoor displays.

What truly sets That Pond Place apart is the full-service pond work. Mike and his crew handle everything from complete pond rebuilds to algae-choked 1/3-acre property pond restorations. One customer had a 33-year-old pond completely redone in four days — fish and frogs safely held, liner replaced, natural stone placed, waterfall rebuilt.

Another had their muck-filled pond cleaned, fitted with a larger aerator, and put on a healthy bacteria regimen that cleared years of algae problems. The follow-up care after installation is consistently praised. The consultation alone is worth the trip.

Mike and Christina genuinely listen, troubleshoot water chemistry issues, and offer actionable advice — something multiple reviewers say they couldn't get anywhere else. The interior shop is described as eclectic and artistic, stocked with pond décor, accessories, and even koi windsocks. For anyone maintaining a backyard pond or dreaming of building one, this Stewartsville shop is the real deal.

This place is awesome and ran by great people! I’m becoming a pond builder myself and Mike has helped me out a lot, even though I could become his potential competition. Great source for everything pond related. Mike builds beautiful water structures. Good people like Mike are hard to come by.

Beautiful atmosphere! I could sit with a glass of wine here all day. The owners and staff feel like family and are beyond patient to answer my pond questions and trouble-shoot nuances. The fish are unique and gorgeous. I could visit ahere like people do Marshall’s and Target!

The team at That Pond Place were phenomenal. We had them completely redo our pond that was 33 years old. The team showed up Monday morning on time and we're able to remove all the fish and frogs and store them in a large holding tank. They removed the liner and were able to redig and setup for the next day for placing the liner and start placing stones. They completely made the pond look like it was natural to our existing pond area and made it a little bigger. You can't see the liner at all and the waterfall is excellent. The whole process was completed by Thursday when they put all the fish and frogs back in the new pond. We would highly recommend to anyone who is looking to redo a old pond or have a new one installed.

Our 1/3 acre pond was a disaster. Full of algae and muck and the folks before us kept hitting it with algicide which not only didn't work it dropped the dead to the bottom creating more nutrients for more algae, vicious circle. Mike and his team took 2 days to clean it up, put us on a healthy bacteria regiment which will naturally solve the algae problem, installed a larger aerator and lovely hardy plants. It is such a big feature of the property and now it looks amazing instead of heartbreaking. Very reasonable price for all of the work it took and fantastic follow up when we had a small issue with the aerator. I could not recommend them more highly.

Went to visit this lovely shop today. We just built a new pond and I was looking for guidance. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I left with water lillies hyacinths and a filtration system. I had such a wonderful experience! Once my pond cycles for a bit, I can't wait to return for more plants and some fish!

This place is a pond owner’s pure oasis. A wide variety of everything pond related. Unlike your local nursery that may carry koi and some pond accessories, this place has it ALL. I took my mother there today and I couldn’t get her outa there. I think we spent 2+ hours there. Excellent variety of pond plants, koi and other fish, tadpoles. They have beautiful ponds on site. Safe to say they are our new place for anything pond related going forward. Very friendly owner/staff, and very knowledgeable and helpful. They also do pond cleaning and building. Our only regret was not knowing about them 10 years ago, so they could have built our pond.

If I could give 10 stars I would. What an amazing place! My wife and I stopped in a few weeks ago for the first time. The place is gorgeous. Walking through the outdoor area was like an oasis filled with beautiful plants and fish. We were greeted by a very nice lady that said if we needed anything or had any questions to please ask away. So we asked if they had any pond lotus plants. Well we were led to several amazing looking lotuses. My wife chose the one she wanted and we were told they’ll have it ready for us in a few minutes (it was quite large). We also picked up several tadpoles for the pond and a super cool koi windsock. When we went inside to pay we walked into a whole other dimension of awesomeness. There was so much to look at, and I can say without a doubt if there’s something you need it’s in there. Also, every single employee was so nice and helpful. Very friendly and knowledgeable and answered every question we had about the new lotus. We were just so happy with everything. But then when we got outside our lotus was waiting for us safely packaged up and loaded onto a garden cart so it didn’t need to be carried to the car. Needless to say we will be back. There was a great variety of everything and the entire staff was awesome. Oh… and one more thing… the lotus is just exploding in the pond. It looks so good. Super healthy and getting bigger by the day. We are eagerly awaiting the first flower!
