Eden Pets Supplies & Aquarium in Colmar Manor, Maryland is a long-standing mom-and-pop pet shop that has been part of the local community for decades. Multiple generations of families have walked through its doors, and some loyal customers swear by it as an alternative to big-box chains. The store stocks freshwater fish, a limited saltwater selection, reptiles including leopard geckos and ball pythons, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, and various pet supplies.
Several reviewers note the shop carries items not easily found at larger retailers, and pricing can be competitive on certain products — though others find items overpriced given the small-store markup. However, the reviews paint a deeply concerning picture of animal welfare. Numerous customers — including one who visited with a veterinary technician — describe overcrowded enclosures, sick and untreated animals, fish tanks choked with algae and powered by oversized bubblers that visibly stress the fish, and dead fish floating in tanks.
Reports mention a ball python with apparent mouth rot, a lizard with labored breathing unable to open its eyes, and a large snake crammed into a tank far too small. Leopard geckos were observed housed together in numbers that raise welfare red flags. Rabbits and guinea pigs were described as stuffed into cramped, hot spaces.
Customer service experiences are equally polarized. Some customers found the owner helpful and patient — one betta fish owner praised the guidance they received. Others describe being ignored, encountering language barriers, or dealing with staff who walked away mid-conversation.
There's a language component to the experience; one reviewer noted that having a Korean-speaking companion smoothed interactions considerably. The store fills a niche in an area without many independent pet shops, and its community roots run deep. But the volume and consistency of animal welfare complaints across years of reviews is difficult to ignore.
Shoppers seeking freshwater fish supplies or reptile gear in the Colmar Manor area should visit with eyes open and expectations managed.

Very sickening with how they handle the animals there. Also, overcharging to the MAX. A small container of cat treats was 22 dollars and for WHAT?? Its dirty and the vibe is just so gloomy.

The care for animals is terrible I know it a pet store and not an actually home but it's just unacceptable I went there with my mother and saw a ball python with mouth rot with dried blood coming out of his mouth and his aggressive prolly die to the pain and the Jackson chameleons upper lip looks shrinked back and even PetSmart does better than this highly unacceptable they should let people take the hurt and sick animals home for free before ever trying to make them pay full price or any discount 😡.

Cruel and inhumane animal care. All the animals are crammed in little enclosures including fish, guinea pigs, bunnies etc.

How do they have so many terrible reviews spanning many years and still haven’t done better? Disgusting and despicable. Do better or shut down!

Cruel, inhumane, terrible conditions and they are not willing to listen. I have never in my life seen reptiles kept in such cramped/small conditions ON SHAVINGS, and my heart broke seeing the rabbit towards the back. I could not give them my money. There was not a single animal who had proper care there, fish and aquatics included. Ridiculous, and absolutely unacceptable how many untreated and sick animals there were. I will be doing my best to follow up because those animals deserve better, especially if you’re making money off them.

What a sad, unethical place for these animals. Please do not support and report this establishment! They had 3 rabbits in there stuffed in a tiny cage and the space was hot. Guinea pigs overcrowded in cages. Birds look extremely unhealthy and the supplies they have are unorganized. Literally had 2 cans of cat food. I pray for the people who have made this their business that they at least stop selling these poor animals and focus more on pet supplies. This is animal cruelty at its worst. A complete shame this is happening on 2025.
