Tucked inside an easy-to-miss business park off Leonard Lane in Salisbury, Maryland, Father Fish Aquarium is the brick-and-mortar home of a fishkeeping philosophy built over more than half a century. The store's founder — known widely as Father Fish through his popular YouTube channel — has cultivated a devoted following around his natural approach to freshwater aquariums, emphasizing established ecosystems in heavily planted tanks rather than the sterile, high-maintenance setups that dominated the hobby for decades. Step inside and you'll find rows of beautifully maintained tanks filled with healthy freshwater fish, including species you won't encounter at any chain store.
Reviewers report finding rare and unique fish alongside staples like bettas, plecos, and even axolotls. The aquatic plant selection is a major draw — reasonably priced and impressively varied, with everything from guppy grass to full starter plant packs available for shipping through the online store. Father Fish also sells his own substrate, a cornerstone product for setting up natural-style tanks at home.
The store doubles as a learning destination. Father Fish himself is often on the floor, sharing stories about his tanks and offering the kind of no-stress, experience-driven guidance that makes newcomers feel at ease. Staff members like Louis have earned shoutouts for their helpfulness, and the shop even offers to accept trade-ins of plants or fish that outgrow home tanks — a practical touch that reflects the ecosystem-first mindset.
The online store extends Father Fish's reach well beyond Maryland's Eastern Shore, shipping plants and substrate to hobbyists more than a thousand miles away. Multiple customers report quick shipping and plants that arrived healthy and helped cycle their tanks successfully. For pond keepers, the shop stocks relevant supplies too.
Father Fish Aquarium is a place where the hobby feels personal and purposeful. It's worth the drive to Salisbury to browse the tanks, pick up plants, and hear decades of hard-won fishkeeping wisdom firsthand.

I did not realize that Father Fish was local and boy do I feel lucky. Amazing aquariums and happy healthy fish every where. Fish you sure won't find in a chain store. And his knowledge, that's priceless but he was happy to answer all my questions. I was really overwhelmed with how much beauty there was. And saw the sweetest Bettas possible.

I have been here a couple times. Father fish uses natural system setups. He has been a hobbiest for more than 1/2 century and is very knowledgeable. Plants are very reasonably priced. Enjoy hearing stories on his tanks. He also has a large variety of fish.

I’ve been to this store 4-5 times. Only one time was I offered any help, or even acknowledged that I was there. In fact the last time I went, I was ready to spend 200 dollars or more on some fish, but couldn’t even get anyone to help me at all. And it’s not like they were busy. I was the only customer in the store

Been listening to father fish’s YouTube’s for a while. Ordered their substrate and medium pack of plants. Shipped quickly came with a great variety of plants. Every single plant survived and my tank cycled nicely.

Ive never personally been to this store. I live over 1000 miles away. However, Father fish has the ability to make you feel like your right there with him. He has an amazing selection of products. They are very reasonably priced. He himself knows almost everything there is to know in the aquarium hobby or lifestyle. As you know, he has 70 years of experience in this field. I mean, who else could possibly know as much as him? At this point, I bet he's forgotten far more than most of us will ever know. So yeah, help support this master in his craft and either visit in person, or shop at his, very easy to use, understand, and navigate, online store. You won't be disappointed. And make sure you subscribe to his channel. Thank you and god bless.

Love all the help to get my tank going and my fish aren’t dying anymore. Only downfall was I had 3 plants die on me from the starter kit I ordered
