Tucked along the road in Sellersburg, Indiana, Sounds of Water is a family-owned water garden and landscape nursery that has built a loyal following among pond enthusiasts across the region — some driving from as far as Evansville just to browse their stock and pick the owners' brains. This is not your typical pet store. It's a specialty destination for anyone building, maintaining, or dreaming about a backyard pond.
The heart of the operation is koi. Customers come for butterfly koi of various sizes, standard koi, and the expertise that comes with decades of hands-on pond work. Owner Roger and his crew don't just sell fish and supplies — they design and install complete waterscapes, from natural stone waterfalls to full pond builds, and they maintain them too.
One reviewer's young son was so captivated watching the crew clean a pond that he now wants to be a "pond guy" when he grows up. Beyond fish, the nursery carries a solid selection of aquatic plants — water lilies, water lettuce, and even barrels of free duckweed for anyone who asks. One customer's water lily purchase survived four years and three pond relocations, still blooming strong.
The plant selection extends to floating varieties that work beautifully for fancy goldfish keepers as well. On the hardscape side, you'll find pond liners, pumps, filters, chemicals priced competitively with online retailers, plus cast and natural waterfalls, fountains, statuary, and landscaping stone. Staff member Willow earned praise for her plant knowledge and willingness to match the right greenery to each customer's setup.
The store's greatest asset may be its consultation. Novice pond builders describe walking in with zero experience and walking out with a clear plan, the right supplies, and the confidence to dig that first hole. Phone consultations happen too — one customer called ahead about liner sizing and got detailed advice before ever setting foot in the shop.
For pond keepers in southern Indiana, this is the resource worth building your water garden around.

Helpful, friendly, knowledgable, a resource for advice as well as top quality fish, plants, equipment and supplies. We are total novices who two years ago decided to dig a hole and fill it with fish. We bought two 5” Koi, waited a few weeks, then bought two more; one died (after many months, we don’t blame the store). The other 3 have thrived, rapidly growing to well over 12” in just those two years. A water lily I bought from them 4 years ago (my first purchase there) has been moved 3 times to 3 different ponds, indoors and out, and is still putting out blooms. Highly recommended.

This place is great. They have a nice assortment of natural and cast waterfalls. Lots of koi including butterfly koi of various sizes. A variety of water plants are also available. Their prices on pond chemicals are on par with what you can order from the internet. The owners are normally on hand to answer questions. They are very knowledgeable and professional. They can help you design a waterscape and install it as well. Overall this is a great small business that has a passion for what they do.

These guys get more than the job done. They go above and beyond to make sure their work is immaculate. My little boy had a BLAST watching the men show him the ropes. They let him help scoop the fish out, get rid of goop. I’m sure he slowed them down but they were so patient and taught him. He wants to be a “pond guy” when he grows up now. Very impressed with the service I received.
