Exotic Aquatics and Pets in Kendallville, Indiana is a small, independently owned pet shop that draws customers from across Noble County and beyond — some driving an hour or more to browse its selection. The store stocks a broad range of freshwater fish, with reviewers noting tanks lining the back of the store filled with various species. They also carry saltwater fish and the equipment to support both types of setups, including canister filters and UV hanging lights sourced through a major national pet supplier.
If something isn't in stock, the owner is known for placing special orders. Beyond aquatics, the shop doubles as a small-animal and reptile destination. Customers have purchased axolotls, leopard geckos, ball pythons, bearded dragons, and more, alongside the supplies needed to house and care for them.
Birds, ferrets, chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, and even sugar gliders have made appearances on the sales floor. One reviewer described getting all of their reptile setups here, from enclosures to accessories. The owner, often working the shop solo, earns praise for his knowledge and willingness to help troubleshoot tank issues and recommend products.
A staff member named Logan gets particular shout-outs for excellent service. Prices lean slightly higher than big-box competitors, but many customers see that as supporting a local business that offers personal expertise you won't find at a chain store. That said, the store has drawn consistent criticism about animal health.
Multiple reviewers report purchasing fish, hamsters, and guinea pigs that arrived sick or died shortly after purchase, and some have described unclean enclosures and unfinished areas in the shop. The owner has acknowledged growing pains and staffing challenges, and returning customers have noted improvement over time. For aquarium hobbyists and reptile keepers in northeastern Indiana looking for a local shop with hands-on help and a diverse inventory, Exotic Aquatics and Pets fills a niche that few stores in the area can match — just inspect animals carefully before purchasing.

Wasn't a bad selection of pets but the store was filthy and the animals looked neglected wouldn't buy a pet from here in a million years

Don't know how this place was still open. I'd been there around a year ago and saw what many other reviews have already described. I came back to see if the conditions improved and they still are neglecting these poor animals I saw another review of someone who bought two hamsters from here and put them in a tiny plastic shoebox cage. Any pet store worth anything would know hamsters are extremely territorial as adults and will kill each other. If I'd sold two hamsters in one cage to a customer at the pet store I worked at I would've been fired. While most pet stores have inappropriate hamster cages (check the California Hamster Association website for info on proper hamster care), selling two hamsters to one person is totally unacceptable. Seems that the employees are not only negligent but completely ignorant about how to care for the animals they sell

I'm not sure who in their right mind would gave this place good reviews, I drove for over an hour to visit this pet store. Not only was the place extremely dirty, but there were also dead and sick fish throughout the tanks. Plus, the back of the store look as if they just threw all their junk back there. There were empty boxes and animal enclosures that were empty but not cleaned out. Don't waste your time.
