About

Uncle Bill's Pet Centers North is a longtime, family-owned pet store in Fishers, IN that packs a lot under one roof — puppies, cats, reptiles, tarantulas, birds, small animals, and a freshwater fish department that keeps regular hobbyists stopping in. With around 950 Google reviews, it's one of the more talked-about pet shops in the Indianapolis area, and opinions run the full range, from devoted regulars to first-time visitors who left unimpressed. For aquarium keepers, the draw is the everyday freshwater stock and the supplies that go with it.

Reviewers come in for freshwater fish for sale in Fishers, IN, feeder fish for predatory pets, and a large koi tank that anchors the back of the fish section. The store also carries aquarium chemicals, tank gear, and care basics, so it's a practical walk-in stop when you need a water conditioner or a piece of equipment on short notice. One recent visitor singled out an employee in the fish area for his "good knowledge of care and tank and all the equipment for healthy fish" — when you catch the right staffer, the fish help here can be genuinely useful.

That said, experiences vary by visit and department. Some shoppers describe friendly greetings, fair prices (especially on reptiles and feeder insects like live dubias), and a fun, walk-around patting area the whole family enjoys. Others have flagged tanks that needed attention and service that felt rushed or hard to flag down.

It's the kind of general fish store where it pays to look closely at the livestock before you buy and to ask for the dedicated fish staffer by name. If you're browsing for freshwater fish, feeder stock, or koi near me in the Fishers area — and want to see a wide range of animals and supplies in person before committing — Uncle Bill's North delivers that all-in-one experience. Just expect the quality of help to depend on who's working the floor that day.

  • “I went in to grab some pond/tank plants. The store is super disorganized in my opinion and it stunk really bad. The fish tanks were dirty, some so bad you couldn't see into them. I wouldn't buy a pet from them based on what I saw. I don't know if the dogs and cats are rescues, but the birds (parakeets) were crammed in a little cage. Looked to be over a hundred in a 4x2x2 foot cage. Staff was really not engaging, and had to ask for help. This was my first trip to them, as Ive always driven by but I won't be going again. The cashier gave me my change back with the bills folded up tight and the change inside of that. It was awkward”

  • “Don’t support puppy mills!!!!”

    — Daimon McFalls1.02 weeks ago
  • “Animal welfare and husbandry is lacking for many animals. The puppies are constantly being pulled in and out of their cages even if customers do not express any interest in buying a dog. The reptile section tends to be the worst area with animal husbandry especially lacking. Prices for the puppies are greatly inflated despite them being from puppy mills.”

  • “I went, hoping the reviews were just harsh, but this place is pretty rough. I came to explore fish, hoping they’d have more options and variety than petsmart (they didn’t) and the tanks are all really poorly cared for? Super overgrown, so many dead fish - more than I’ve ever seen in any store to the point the other fish were feeding on weeks old carcasses. So sad and gross!”

    — Nicole Lewis2.03 weeks ago
  • “Place is garbage. They don't treat the animals right. The reptiles have always looked horrible and it's sad to know those dogs never leave the tiny kennels and get tossed from store to store untill you can make a profit.”
