Greentree Pet Center in Clarksville, Indiana has been a regional fixture for decades, with multiple reviewers noting 10- and even 25-year relationships with the store. While it's a full-service pet shop carrying reptiles, birds, rodents, and small animals, the freshwater fish section is what draws aquarium hobbyists from well beyond the local area. Customers consistently describe it as having the best fish selection within a two-hour radius, and that claim holds weight when you see the range — from arowanas and redtail catfish to Oscars and axolotls.
The store caters heavily to freshwater enthusiasts, stocking species that can be genuinely hard to find at big-box competitors. One customer picked up two arowanas and raved about their quality, while others have appreciated the variety of cichlids and other freshwater species available. The staff generally earns praise for their knowledge, with reviewers highlighting helpful guidance on everything from paludarium setups to proper axolotl care.
They've been known to help customers cart heavy hardscape materials to their cars, and their pricing consistently undercuts the chain pet stores in the area. The store underwent a recent remodel that earned positive attention, though the aisles can still feel tight — calling ahead is worthwhile if accessibility is a concern. It's worth noting that some reviewers have flagged occasional cleanliness issues with tanks and enclosures, and a few customer service interactions have fallen short.
These criticisms appear to be the exception rather than the rule across nearly 1,600 reviews, but they're worth mentioning. What keeps people coming back is the combination of variety, fair pricing, and a staff that largely treats fishkeeping as a craft worth discussing rather than just a transaction. If you're in the Louisville metro area or southern Indiana and looking for freshwater species beyond the typical danios-and-guppies selection, Greentree Pet Center is the store that serious hobbyists have relied on for years.

Incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and helpful staff, answered all my questions about paludarium set up and even helped me cart some of the more heavy rocks to my car. There prices are much better than the surrounding 'big pet stores' and they have much more variety. Highly recommend!
