About
Night Stalkers Pet Emporium in Anderson, Indiana is first and foremost a reptile and exotic-animal shop, but it also keeps a freshwater fish department that makes it one of the more unusual places to browse aquatics in the area. Reviewers consistently describe the livestock as "exotic," and shoppers tend to come in for less common stock rather than the standard community-tank fare you'd find at a big-box chain. One recent customer was happy with a male betta that "lived longer than expected," and the store has kept axolotls and other oddities alongside its tanks, so anyone hunting for exotic freshwater fish for sale in Anderson, IN may turn up something worth the trip.
Under new ownership, the family-run store has been earning warmer words from part of its customer base. "Absolutely love the new owners! Everyone is so kind and helpful," one visitor wrote in spring 2026, while another noted the place "is good and getting better all the time.
" Fish buyers in particular have appreciated talking with staff who actually know their livestock — as one reviewer put it, "it was nice to go into Night Stalkers especially to get someone who knew their fish," instead of a clueless big-box employee. 4 rating reflects that split. Plenty of regulars call it a fun, well-stocked family business with a great variety of creatures and fair prices; others have raised concerns about crowding, cleanliness, and animal care.
A few shoppers have also shown up during posted hours only to find the store hadn't opened yet, so calling ahead to confirm both the hours and the current fish inventory is a smart move before you go. For Anderson, IN hobbyists who enjoy browsing exotic, reptile-friendly shops and want to see what freshwater fish are available in person, this neighborhood fish store is worth a look — just go with your eyes open and your questions ready.

“Update your hours, drove good 40 minutes for nothing.”
— Reina Carroll2.0Edited 22 hours ago“This is just ridiculous. Ive been sitting out here for 40 minutes (since 12) for them too open and no one is ever here. Now I dont care I can come back any day its the animals I'm worried about. Their cages need to be cleaned, and the animals need to be fed. Not to mention ive tried calling them and none of them answered.”

— Justin Willson5.02 months ago“I visited on Saturday, April 18th to purchase a jumping spider. However, upon entry, there was multiple small animals in cages too small/unhygienic, including a goat that looked absolutely miserable in a cage designed for puppies. I continued to look further and saw an animal that was very much like an anteater but not quite the same. Further behind this exotic animal is a lemur pacing back and forth, very clearly distressed. This place smelled horrible. I was going to take pictures, however on their front door they prohibit pictures and videos. I think it’s very suspicious that they enforce that rule because they don’t have the proper permits and they also clearly do not care about the wellbeing of their animals. This place is very unethical and something needs to be done about it. The employees clearly don’t care and are absurdly rude, including the owner.”
— Kimberly Kippert1.02 months ago“Vary dirty and smelled like constant fieces plus the parrots were missing feathers on back of there necks and the employees were vary rude about the animals when the animals were sniffing hands screaming out Dont Touch The Animals and found it vary wierd that they have a blantant sign on the door saying No picture or videos i wonder why and if ur looking to see izod the alligator they still have his enclosure but he got shipped to a better place in maryland and the place has new owners and i wonder if they ever go into there to see the state of there store but they do have a good selection of exotic animals but they will need sum TLC when or if you decide to make a purchase there but i would highly suggest otherwise and they also advertise that they have dogs and cats but there wasnt a dog and cat in sight and it was also vary crowded in there the animals were pushed together with barly any room making the animals vary stressed”
— tylor chappell2.02 months ago“Honestly I was hesitant on making a review because my first impression was high, I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of animals and I thought they were in better caging than unclebills for example. But yesterday I went in looking for mice, not as food but as a pet, as I’m browsing this woman starts making side comments, I noticed the mouse cages that weren’t labeled “not for sale.” I was looking at them and was interested in a few when I received a comment stating, “The bottom ones are absolutely not for sale, obviously.” I was taken aback, but I respected her statement and instead asked about the feeder mice, as I wanted to see if any stood out to me and potentially give them a better home than being used as snake food. I have cared for small animals since a very young age and take their care seriously. The moment I asked, I was met with an unprofessional and dismissive response. I was told, “Yeah, I’m not selling you any of these mice, they’re for food,” followed by comments about how genetically “messed up” they are and that she would not consider selling them. This was all said with a negative tone and without any direct acknowledgment toward me. I ultimately chose to leave the store due to this interaction. Additionally, during a previous visit, I was interested in purchasing fish but noticed several appeared to have ich (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis), which raised concerns about overall animal care. Overall, this experience felt very unprofessional. I recommend others do their research before making a purchase here and take this information into consideration. The photo below is the home that the Mice would’ve gotten.”
