Sea Life Fish & Aquariums in St. Petersburg, Florida has earned a loyal following across the Tampa Bay area — and it's not hard to see why. This sprawling shop delivers on both the saltwater and freshwater sides of the hobby, with immaculately maintained tanks housing an impressive diversity of species, including unusual varieties that you won't find at big-box retailers.
The saltwater section is a standout. Corals are a major draw, with enough variety to help reef enthusiasts build long-term collections from beginner-friendly pieces to more advanced selections. Reviewers consistently note the health of the livestock — fish arrive home in good shape, and the store's commitment to animal welfare is evident in how staff will actually talk customers out of a purchase if a fish isn't compatible with their existing tank mates.
That kind of integrity is rare in retail. Freshwater keepers aren't overlooked either. The plant selection is well-regarded and reasonably priced, and the store stocks practical staples like black worms alongside their more eye-catching inventory.
Display tanks throughout the shop are genuinely beautiful, giving visitors a sense of what's possible and making the store worth a visit even if you're just browsing. What sets Sea Life apart is the people behind the counter. The owner is frequently mentioned by name-adjacent praise — he introduces himself, takes time with customers, and brings deep knowledge to every interaction.
Staff across the board share that same ethos: patient, genuinely helpful, and focused on matching the right fish and corals to your specific setup rather than pushing sales. Multiple reviewers who drove significant distances — one clocking an hour each way — say they'll happily make the trip again. Pricing is competitive, often undercutting other specialty stores in the area.
Combined with the clean facility, gorgeous displays, and a team that clearly loves what they do, Sea Life Fish & Aquariums has established itself as one of the strongest aquarium shops on Florida's Gulf Coast.

Great variety, knowledgeable staff! Can't say enough good things about Sea Life Fish & Aquariums! I'm a newbie to the hobby and the staff took the time to explain the coral and fish to fit my aquarium and beginner "how-to". I was able to find everything I needed and some exciting corals to build a long term reef. Definitely worth the trip vs the box stores when starting out or finding new additions to an aquarium.

This is imo the best aquarium store in the area. When it comes to the saltwater area they are very knowledgeable and have no issues taking the time to help. I’ve bought multiple fish and they have all been healthy. I think my favorite part about them here is they genuinely care about the fish. They have no problem telling you if a fish is not a good tank mate for your others. They don’t try to just push the sales. All prices seem to be fair or lower than the other stores in the area.
