Poseidon Aquarium in South Daytona, Florida is a long-standing fish store that draws hobbyists from well beyond the Daytona Beach area — some driving an hour or more to browse its sprawling inventory. The store stocks both freshwater and saltwater species in impressive variety, with customers reporting hundreds of types of aquarium creatures on display at any given time. Live plants like anubias sit alongside tanks of loaches, guppies, mollies, tangs, and more unusual finds like mantis shrimp.
The driftwood selection alone has inspired out-of-state visitors to check a bag on their flight home. New and used aquarium setups line the floor, making it a practical stop for anyone building a tank from scratch or upgrading. Sand, supplies, and general dry goods round out the inventory, and prices are consistently described as fair for a retail shop.
Owner Nick and the staff bring genuine enthusiasm to the hobby. One memorable interaction saw the owner giving a child a gentle chance to feel a shark's skin — a small gesture that left a lasting impression. Staff recommendations carry weight too; one customer cleared a 98-percent snail infestation overnight after following advice to add yoyo loaches.
The store also stocks corals and zoanthids for the saltwater crowd, though some reef keepers have noted the coral systems could use more maintenance, with occasional aiptasia and algae issues in the display tanks. It's worth noting that fish health has been a recurring concern in a subset of reviews. Several customers have reported losses shortly after purchase, particularly with saltwater species like mimic tangs.
Careful inspection before buying — and a proper quarantine protocol at home — is strongly advisable. Despite those caveats, Poseidon Aquarium remains one of the most well-stocked local fish stores in the greater Daytona area. The sheer breadth of livestock, from axolotl supplies to rare plecos to saltwater invertebrates, makes it worth the trip for serious fishkeepers looking to browse and discover something unexpected.

This is a great aquarium shop! We were visiting from IL and had to check a bag to get the great driftwood we found home. They have so many great pieces. And the selection of fish was outstanding! Worth the visit just to look at the fish!

Stopped by recently looking for an aquarium and found exactly what I was looking for. The store was very organized and had a huge selection of new/used aquarium set ups to choose from. I very much appreciate the direction the store is going, will be back for livestock soon.

Great fish shop with everything you could possibly need and knowledgeable owner and employees! Also good prices! Go here every few months and recently I stopped by with a friend just to look around. When I spotted a dream pet of mine, mantis shrimp! It was a good price and looked healthy and well cared for. Put her on hold to get my tank up prepared for her and picked her up yesterday. After acclimating, she got into her new home and immediately showed interest in exploring and hunting! She ate this morning and is very lively! I am ecstatic! Also the owner was super kind with my kiddo, who loves sharks and always wanted to touch one. He politely declined allowing for understandable reasons. It's a fish shop not a petting zoo/touch tank. But then he did allow a little pet so they could feel the tactile nature of their skin. It made my kids day! Like they haven't shut up about it and it's so good to see them so happy as things have been personally difficult for them. Thank you so much for the small kindness! It meant the world!

Last night I bought two Yoyo Loaches because I had an infestation of snails. When I woke up this morning nearly 98 percent of them was gone. It was unbelievable! The store owner was so informative and right on point. Plus I bought some beautiful anubias. Awesome place to get all your aquatic needs.👍

wide selection the lady I dealt with was friendly. What I didn’t like was spent over $90 for fish got home one was dead in the bag. Called them to let them know the person that answer the phone said oh I’m sorry to hear that in a very unprofessional way, using some vulgar language that’s not a good way to run a business. Then proceeded to tell me he wasn’t able to help me the person that could was out and to call back tomorrow. If employees are running the store the. they should be able to help with a dead fish issue. To top it off i drove just almost an hour to get here. I am not about to drive another hour there to get store credit. I have purchased fish from other venders and they had no problem issuing the return on a credit card. So because the unprofessional language and the not being able to help me I won’t shop here again. There are better options out there just do your research.

I would not recommend. I bought guppies from them to add to a well established tank. They died within a week. They blamed my tank and would give any type of refund saying they have not had any problems. Well here I am saying it's a problem. I left and got fish from another place and months later they are thriving with lots of babies.

I don't go to fish stores often as I breed everything from guppies to L-046 and belong to 4 aquarium clubs. I live in Orlando. I was in Daytona so I stopped. Very nice store good prices for retail. I had to hunt someone down for help. There were 3 people behind the counter. They had 1 chocolate Molly I wanted. They said they were keeping it to breed. I doubt they will provide adequate space to raise Molly fry. Since they wouldn't sell to me I left and I won't be back. Photos are my fish at home
