Tucked into Port Charlotte, Florida, Finatic Aquatics has built a devoted following among Southwest Florida fishkeepers — and the reasons become obvious the moment you walk in. The tanks are crystal clear, the livestock is visibly healthy, and the staff (particularly Justin, Erett, Erik, and Eric) seem genuinely invested in every customer's success. Multiple reviewers note they've never seen a dead fish floating in any display tank here, a detail that speaks volumes about the care behind the scenes.
The freshwater selection is particularly strong, with one of the best cichlid collections in the region — gorgeous, large adult specimens that would be hard to find elsewhere. Saltwater hobbyists will find quality marine fish and coral, while planted tank enthusiasts can browse live plants, hardscape materials, and specialty substrates. The store also stocks medications that can be hard to source locally, including treatments for bettas that big-box stores simply don't carry.
What truly sets Finatic Aquatics apart is the consultation culture. Free water testing isn't just a perk — it's practically a ritual. Bring in a sample, and the team will break down your parameters before recommending a single fish.
Staff members, including a marine biologist on the team, will spend real time coaching customers on tank setup, algae management, RODI systems, and stocking limits. Several long-time customers emphasize that the shop has never pressured them into upgrades or purchases their setups couldn't handle. Prices are competitive — the store reportedly matches Amazon on aquarium supplies, which is remarkable for an independent shop.
The space itself is compact, so it can get tight when busy, but the density of quality livestock and supplies packed into every corner makes it worth navigating. For Port Charlotte residents and anyone willing to drive from Sarasota to Naples, Finatic Aquatics delivers the rare combination of healthy fish, honest advice, and a team that clearly loves what they do. The kind of local fish store that makes the hobby better.

This place is the real deal for all your aquarium needs and info. It's not a sell you something, get you in and out type business. If you need they will spend time sharing knowledge to ensure you aquire and maintain a healthy environment for your fish which can be hard to come by. I'm so glad to now have a ligit LFS nearby but if your out of town, it's worth the drive. Even if your just going to visit, merely gazing at their tanks gives me inspiration.

What an absolutely amazing LFS! There are so many reasons to give Finatic Aquatics a try, and I’ll briefly name a few: 1. Justin and Erett are beyond incredible to work with. They not only love the hobby, but are passionate and intelligent (Marine Biologist) which makes the knowledge that they share all the better. They had coached me and my family on our adventure into this incredible hobby. 2. The variety of fish (freshwater/Marine), plants, crustaceans, livestock in general is super cool (Pro tip: Bring the little ones along for an awesome, informal aquarium visit while you are getting supplies, fish, etc for your own home). They have incredible tanks/stands which are beautiful and reasonably priced, which leads me to my next point. 3. No pressure! Finatic Aquatics has always been there for us for the past 4 years that we have been working with them, and not once have we felt pressured into something we weren’t equipped to do. On the contrary, they have directed us to stay within the boundaries of what our setup is able to handle. We have been looking at upgrading for two years and have talked with them at length, but life just hasn’t allowed the upgrade…YET. They have NEVER pressured us into upgrading, and are constantly giving us great information and help with the various issues that arise (algae, water parameters, etc). 4. Free water testing - bring in a water sample to have them test. I feel very confident in saying (and you can correct me if I’m wrong) that while they are definitely wanting to sell you some fish/supplies, they are just as interested in helping you maintain a healthy, thriving ecosystem in your home! In summary, we are SO thankful for Justin and Mark at Finatic Aquatics! Go, check them out for yourselves and say “Hi” when you see me in there with my family :)!

So informative! My husband and I stopped by to check it out, we bought our very first fish tank. We had many questions and are so blown away with how much information we left with. Please support this local business! They really know their stuff and put so much care into their tanks and it shows.

After decades, I decided to get back into fishkeeping. I'm the kind of person when starting up a hobby goes to every shop he can to learn and get ideas, so I've been from North Sarasota to Naples, all aquarium stores..... I live in Port Charlotte, well lucky me, the best store is here! Tanks are clean, no dead fish floating around (yes, saw plenty in other places....), good selection of quality brands of chemicals. The guys are down to earth, knowledgable, polite and helpful. They love their craft and the fish! I'm about 2 months in on a 75 gallon, and going great following their advice so far. Best selection of cichlids I've seen.

This is the only store that actually carries the medication I needed for my bettas. Aside from that though, it's so refreshing knowing there's a local place that actually cares about their animals and not just the profit they're making off of them!

I love this place. Got some beautiful fish today. For those who are interested, a PH of zero is Hydrochloric Acid.
