Fish Fantasia sits in Palm Springs, Florida, as a neighborhood tropical fish store that draws customers from well beyond the immediate area — one reviewer drove all the way from Boynton Beach after reading about the shop online. At the heart of the operation is Michael (Mike), the owner, whose hands-on expertise consistently earns praise. He's the kind of shopkeeper who will test your aquarium water before selling you fish, talk you through substrate choices when your Home Depot pea pebbles turn your tank into a mud pit, and even help a cat owner transition a finicky feline to healthier food.
The store stocks both freshwater and saltwater species alongside aquatic plants, driftwood, and the usual range of fish food and supplies. Longtime customers report keeping Tiger Barbs, Mollies, Guppies, and Catfish purchased here healthy for years. The freshwater selection gets the most consistent praise, though saltwater hobbyists will find species on hand as well.
Live plants and natural driftwood pieces are available, though plant quality has drawn mixed feedback — at least one buyer encountered pest hitchhikers, so quarantining new additions is wise advice regardless of where you shop. Pricing is frequently described as competitive and fair, and the staff beyond Michael generally gets high marks for friendliness and willingness to help newcomers understand the basics of tank cycling, stocking, and maintenance. Mike's willingness to offer free water testing and honest guidance — even if it means delaying a sale until conditions are right — sets the store apart from big-box alternatives in the area.
The store does have rough edges. A few reviewers have noted tense interactions with a woman behind the counter, and the no-refund policy on live animals has frustrated some shoppers. The selection has reportedly shrunk over time, a concern loyal customers voice alongside their relief that the shop remains open at all.
For Palm Springs aquarists who value personalized advice and a locally owned alternative to chain pet stores, Fish Fantasia delivers where it counts: knowledgeable guidance, healthy livestock, and a genuine investment in your success with the hobby.

This is a my favorite pet store. I had a difficult time getting my cat to eat healthy food. She would hold out for treats and she was gaining weight. I spoke with Michael at Fish Fantasia. He knew exactly what to do to get my finicky cat to switch over to a healthier diet and also how to cut back on the treats. He was 💯 correct and we are on the right path now. I'm very grateful for his kindness, patience in explaining, and for his professional expertise. He obviously knows his animals. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I went in today totally defeated by my sad attempt of using Home Depot Pea Pebbles to save some extra money. I rinsed numerous times and once added to the tank it was a struggle with no relief for nearly 2 week. I came here and wanted to ask a worker ( turned out to be the owner, I believe his name was Michael) and he exceeded all expectations. He was extremely knowledgeable. Told me what products were best for me and what would help me. I took his advice. Ran home, completely emptied my new tank and rinsed everything off and added new substrate- this time aquarium substrate. And I did everything he said. Not even 1 hour after filling my tank up it is SPARKLING. So clean you’d never thought I just had muddy water from adding cheap landscaping pebbles 😅 I will be coming here from now on. Best experience I’ve ever had. Peep the before and after pics

Not sure about the fish, but GET YOUR AQUATIC PLANTS ELSEWHERE. I WISH I NEVER BOUGHT A THING FROM HERE. First time I entered the store I browsed around a bit. Second time, bought some driftwood and was pretty satisfied with my purchase that day. Granted, it wasnt a live item so it was simple... I returned to buy some live plants, asked if there were only plants in the tank or if they also had snails and fish in the tank and was quickly told "No this tank is only for the plants". As I was browsing the tank there was LITERALLY a good-sized fish behind the plants just looking at me. "Do they not know what they have in their own tanks, hello?" was the first thing I thought. That one red flag should've stopped me. Mind you, the owners wife (I think she said she's the wife, but she's the old lady you'll probably see there. Each time I went she was behind the desk) was there too and I'm assuming she didnt know there were actually fish in there either but kept wanting to involve herself in the transaction. I decided to ignore it, stupid me, and went through buying maybe $20 worth of plants. So glad I followed my gut and DIDN'T buy way MORE like I usually do. The plants were INFESTED with large clearish-white bugs that quickly spread in my quarantine bucket. THANK THE HEAVENS ABOVE I didnt put them in any of my main tanks because I would've lost my mind and I would've driven all the way back to that store. I called and asked if they do refunds and was INSTANTLY met with attitude from I'm assuming the owners wife considering it was the same voice and after the blatant lack of professionalism, knowledge on what's stocked in YOUR OWN TANK, and the likely lack of maintenance that caused the infestation of those insects within the water, I will NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN. I'll happily support a different LFS with an actual care for their community and their own products. Just imagine someone new entering the hobby who doesnt know to quarantine yet, getting a nice tank set up, spending all that time and money, excited to buy plants and having their tank overrun with bugs. Not only would they have to restart their tank most likely, but they'd also be met with sass and attitude when reaching back out to the seller. By the way, no refunds on anything alive under any circumstance so tough luck. If all the one star reviews don't keep you away, I don't know what will.
