SomethingFISHY in Oviedo, Florida has built the kind of reputation that gets people driving 45 minutes — even 90 minutes round trip — just to walk through its doors. This family-run shop covers both freshwater and saltwater, stocking everything from neon tetras and jack dempseys to vibrant corals and neocaridina shrimp. One reviewer picked up 7 neon tetras after losing nearly an entire school purchased from chain stores, and reported they looked healthier from day one.
That kind of fish quality doesn't happen by accident. The live plant selection is a standout. Multiple customers call it out as far superior to what big-box pet stores offer — healthier specimens, more variety, and floating plants alongside traditional aquarium species.
If you're building a planted tank or aquascape, this is the kind of inventory that justifies the trip. They also carry a solid range of dry goods: substrate, rocks, filters, pumps, fish food, and other equipment to keep your setup running. What customers consistently notice is the tank hygiene.
The aquariums are clean, well-maintained, and appropriately stocked. Staff reportedly kept neon tetras for a month with zero mortalities before selling them — a level of care that speaks volumes. When one customer wanted to buy a larger fish (affectionately dubbed Mr.
Cheeto), the staff made sure they had proper housing and understood how big the fish would grow before completing the sale. Pricing is generally considered fair and competitive, with occasional 20% off sales that sweeten the deal. A few shoppers found things slightly higher than elsewhere, but most feel the quality and service more than justify the cost.
The staff — Maya gets a specific shoutout — are consistently described as passionate and genuinely helpful, offering guidance on shrimp keeping, tank upgrades, and species selection without pushing unnecessary purchases. SomethingFISHY is a destination shop for Oviedo and the broader Central Florida aquarium community, and the loyal following it's built makes that clear.

Stopped in for the first time, after trying a few different fish stores. I will say this is the absolute best! From clean aquariums, healthy & appropriate stocking this place is a must for all types of fish hobbyists. I felt the prices were fair and even got the chance to purchase Mr.Cheeto :) I loved how before purchasing him Staff made sure I had proper housing and knowledge on how big he’s gonna get. No matter the questions I asked or when I was just browsing I felt welcomed and informed.

Everyone on staff is always extremely helpful. I was starting out my new aquarium hobby with neocaridinas, and they gave me really great guidance. For aquascaping, they also have an extremely nice selection of freshwater aquarium plants that you just can't get at the corporate pet stores, and always healthier. Can highly recommend.
