Tucked away in Oldsmar, Florida, FISH and other ICHTHY stuff has built a serious reputation among Tampa Bay's saltwater community — and it's earned almost entirely on the strength of one thing: obsessive attention to livestock health. Owner John runs what multiple reviewers describe as the best quarantine process in the area, meaning every fish that leaves this shop has been held, observed, and cleared before it goes into your reef tank. That alone sets it apart from a crowded local fish store scene.
The tanks here are strikingly clean — multiple visitors specifically call this out, and it's noticeable the moment you walk in. The coral selection draws praise for both quality and pricing, and the marine fish inventory leans toward carefully curated rather than overwhelming. Customers have found yellow watchman gobies, Bellus angelfish, and a solid rotation of reef-safe species.
John himself designed and built the shop's protein skimmer from scratch, which tells you something about the depth of engineering knowledge behind the operation. This is a store that thrives on conversation. John keeps a library of aquarium reference books behind the counter and prefers to talk through problems rather than push products.
Several reviewers note that he won't try to upsell you on quick-fix solutions — he'd rather help you understand root causes and implement lasting fixes for your reef tank. That consultative approach makes this a particularly strong destination for intermediate and experienced reefers who want a real dialogue about their systems. The shop's focus is squarely on marine livestock — corals and reef fish — rather than a sprawling dry goods inventory.
If you're building or maintaining a reef tank in the Tampa Bay area and you've been burned by sick fish from other stores, the quarantine-first philosophy here is a genuine differentiator. Customers report that fish purchased from FISH and other ICHTHY stuff settle in quickly and stay healthy, which is the only metric that truly matters. Worth the drive to Oldsmar for anyone serious about their saltwater setup.

I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the tanks. Very knowledgeable staff. I generally go to another fish store, but they didn't have the yellow watchman goby we were looking for. I'm glad I stopped in. They had what I needed and the fish is settling in nicely after just under having it for 24 hours.

I recommend this LFS specially when buying fish. All tanks are super clean, fish are healthy and active. They had a system to quarantine fish that you can buy with confidence. All fish that I bought from them still alive and healthy. Very knowledgeable management. They also have good selection of corals wish also looks great at good prices.

The person who answers the phone needs to learn that their bad mood should not be taken out on others. Called and asked what's the weirdest marine fish available. Employee was very curt, immediately dismissed me. Followed up with, "well do you have any boxfish?" Dismissed again. Must've thought I was joking, when in reality I was trying very hard to spend money. Luckily, I took my business to a more reliable shop and just picked up an O. meleagris to add to my Ostracion family. Thanks for this opportunity, Fish and other Ichthy Stuff, I now was able to buy a brand new desirable fish somewhere else and didn't waste my time shopping at your store. Edit in response to your update: I have been keeping different boxfish and cowfish species for years. My oldest specimen is going on 6 years old and 8 inches in length. Maybe you just lack the skills necessary to care for more sensitive marine organisms. The fact that you deem these fish as ultra difficult and incapable of being housed shows that the limit of your comprehension has been met.

This was my first visit at the store. I was amazed at how well kept the display tanks were , there was a wide variety of healthy fish and coral. The owners were very pleasant , helpful and knowledgeable. I came home with a beautiful Bellus angel. I had been going to another establishment in Tampa for years for my reef tank needs, the quality of fish has gone down dramatically and the knowledge was less than helpful. I am so glad to have found my new LFS !! Thank you !!!!

The owner literally built/designed his own protein skimmer for his shop's needs. The tanks are the cleanest you will ever see in the hobby. John doesn't try to up-sell you on magic solutions for your tank/issues, he will discuss everything in depth and suggest the best solution to tackle your problem for good. The man has a library of books behind him all about aquaria. If you're looking for the lawyer of the reef keeping hobby in Tampa, potentially in the entire hobby, it's this shop/owner. Heaven for an intermediate to experienced reefer.
