Professional Fish Keepers in Margate, Florida has built a loyal following among South Florida aquarists thanks to one of the largest fish selections in the area and a commitment to selling only healthy, well-acclimated livestock. The family-run shop stocks both freshwater and saltwater fish, corals, live plants, and a solid range of equipment and supplies — making it a genuine one-stop destination for the hobby. What sets PFK apart is their quarantine protocol.
Every fish is quarantined before hitting the sales floor, and staff will feed the fish in front of you before purchase so you can confirm they're eating and thriving. It's a small gesture that speaks volumes about how seriously they take fish health, and longtime customers report keeping PFK fish alive for years without issue. The freshwater side shines with a deep selection that includes tetras, Corydora catfish, bettas, mystery snails, and cichlids — including midas cichlids that have drawn some raised eyebrows for their premium pricing.
Saltwater enthusiasts will find corals and marine fish to browse as well. The tanks throughout the store are consistently clean, and the livestock looks vibrant and well cared for. Staff — particularly the woman many regulars interact with — are genuinely engaged in helping customers build successful setups.
One customer recounted going from a modest 3-gallon tank with two tetras to running both a 20-gallon planted tank and a separate 10-gallon betta setup, all sourced from PFK. That kind of progression speaks to the quality of guidance available here. Prices do run higher than big-box competitors, and some shoppers have balked at the cost of certain cichlids.
But repeat buyers consistently argue the premium is justified by the health and longevity of the fish. For aquarists in Margate and the broader South Florida area who prioritize quality livestock over bargain pricing, PFK delivers.

This is my go to fish store here in south Florida. PFK has one of the largest selections of fish in the area and very knowledgeable on anything you need help with. I have bought dozens of fish from them and never had an issue with a single one. They quarantine all there fish before selling them and also make sure they’re eating, they always feed the fish for you before you buy them so you can see with your own eyes they’re eating. This might not be a big deal to some but for my personal experience it is and it shows they know what they’re doing and how to sell fish that will live. PFK is a little bit pricey compared to other stores but with the price comes quality, there fish are well kept and won’t give your tank any sicknesses. This is the only place I buy fish from now

This place is amazing!! The owners are great and seems like it’s a family run store! The lady who is usually working there always takes care of me when I’m buying new fishes, plants or supplies. I decided to get into the hobby and bought my first 3 gallon tank here with 2 Tetras and now I’m up to a 20 gallon planted tank with 8 tetras, 4 Corydora catfish, a Bertie snail and a mystery snail and a 10 gallon tank with my newly acquired Betta fish. I’ve had these fishes for almost 2 years now and no issues. If you are looking for quality fishes and equipment, PFK is the place to go!!

If I could give this unprofessional place 0 stars, I would. Didn’t even make it in because of how extremely rude 2 different males were over the phone. Don’t know how this place is even in business, should be called “Unprofessional Fish Keepers”
