About

What's In Your Tank is a family-owned aquarium store tucked into a small Land O' Lakes, FL storefront, run by Sue, a longtime fish keeper whose knowledge pulls regulars from 40 minutes to over an hour away. It is the kind of shop where the tanks stay spotless and the livestock looks genuinely healthy. " The freshwater side stays well stocked for community keepers.

One shopper recently took home a school of diamond tetras for her community tank, another pointed out a dedicated tiger barb tank, and the range runs from everyday community fish to harder-to-find specimens. If you are looking for guppies, catfish, tetras, or live plants for sale in Land O' Lakes, FL, this is a dependable local stop, and Sue is happy to talk through stocking before you ever buy a fish. Saltwater and reef is where the shop really shines.

Reef keepers come for corals, invertebrates, and reef supplies, and past customers have picked up a superman rhodactis mushroom, a bicolor blenny, and assorted inverts while getting help dialing in their PAR and hardscaping their rock work. Sue has mentored more than one newcomer through a first saltwater build or a fresh 29-gallon setup, and reviewers note she will even house a sick fish or struggling coral until it recovers. The store is small, so expect a curated inventory and one-on-one attention rather than a big-box warehouse.

Frozen foods, dry goods, and reef supplies round out the shelves, and if something isn't in stock, Sue will track it down so you can come back and pick it up in person. Her blunt, honest advice, steering customers away from a purchase that won't work even when it costs her the sale, has earned fierce loyalty over years of biweekly visits. For freshwater hobbyists and reef keepers searching for an aquarium store near me in the Tampa Bay area, What's In Your Tank delivers expertise and livestock quality that chain stores simply can't match.

  • “Absolutely wonderful family-owned fish shop! The staff truly care about both their customers and the animals. They took the time to answer all my questions, offered honest advice, and never made me feel rushed. The fish are healthy, the tanks are clean, and it’s clear they take great pride in what they do. It’s refreshing to find a local aquarium store where customer service and animal care come first. Highly recommend to anyone looking for fish, aquarium supplies, or expert guidance!”

  • “One of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. I walked into the store respectfully because I’m new to the fish hobby and wanted advice before buying fish, but the older woman who appeared to be the owner was extremely rude and aggressive from the beginning. Instead of helping or explaining, she kept raising her voice at me and repeatedly demanding to know what fish I already had in my tank in a very hostile and disrespectful way. Every time I tried to explain that I’m still learning and asking questions to avoid making mistakes, she interrupted me and continued speaking to me with attitude in front of other customers. There’s a huge difference between asking questions to help a customer and talking down to people like they are bothering you. Any professional fish store should encourage beginners and help them learn, not embarrass them for asking simple questions. I stayed calm and respectful the entire time, but the older woman’s behavior was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Definitely not a welcoming place for new hobbyists, and I will never return.”
